Skoda India has issued a voluntary recall for 221 units of the Kodiaq SUV due to a manufacturing defect in the front seat structure. The affected vehicles were manufactured between 10 March 2025 and 8 December 2025. This safety action follows internal quality assessments that identified a potential risk to occupant safety in the event of a collision. The carmaker has already notified the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the relevant transport authorities.

The technical concern involves the edge of the inner frame of the front seats. An improperly finished or welded frame could potentially fail under the high pressures of a crash. If the structural integrity of the backrest is compromised, the seat may not maintain its position, significantly increasing the risk of injury to the driver or front passenger.

Beyond the physical stability of the seat, the defect directly impacts the vehicle's secondary safety systems. The side airbags in the Kodiaq are integrated into the seat assembly. A faulty inner frame can interfere with the correct deployment or rupture the airbag casing. This may cause the airbags to inflate in an incorrect sequence or direction, reducing the level of protection provided during a side-impact accident.

Skoda Auto India is proactively contacting the owners of the 221 affected SUVs to schedule inspections. Authorised service centres will examine the front seat inner frames to ensure they meet factory safety standards. If a defect is confirmed, technicians will replace the entire seat frame assembly to restore the vehicle to its original safety specifications.

No accidents or injuries related to this seat frame issue have been reported at this time. However, the manufacturer has advised customers to prioritise the inspection as the defect involves critical safety components.
