Skoda's upcoming sedan teased

The teaser image of the upcoming Skoda sedan gives us an idea of how the new car will look like. The design elements are familiar as Skoda is following the same styling philosophy that is observed on the new Octavia.

By now we already know that Skoda is coming up with a sedan that will slot right between the Rapid and the Octavia in the Indian car market. For the first time, Skoda has unveiled a teaser image of the upcoming sedan revealing that the design language will be very close to the one observed on the 2021 Skoda Octavia.

The picture has been handed out with the announcement of a design contest that will be conducted by Skoda India. The image is a digital render and we are yet to see the sedan in its final production form. The digital render confirms that the new sedan will sport a grille design similar to the recently launched Octavia. The headlamp gets a triangular design with all-LED elements setup. The bonnet gets a clamshell design with aggressively styled moulds.

In 2020, Skoda India filed a trademark for the name ‘Slavia’ that is likely to be reserved for the new mid-size premium sedan. Interestingly, the company also has the usage rights for the name ‘Laura’ up to the year 2025. There is very little clarity if Skoda will dub the new sedan the Slavia or bring back the Laura nomenclature with this new sedan. What’s confirmed is that the new Czech mid-sized sedan will make a global debut by the end of 2021, sometime around the festive season.

The new Skoda sedan will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform that also underpins the Skoda Kushaq and the sister company’s Volkswagen Taigun. Just as the platform, the powertrain is expected to be shared between the SUVs and the sedan. Expect the launch by the end of 2021, with deliveries likely to commence by January 2022.
