Aston Martin has launched a special car to commemorate the company’s 1959 Le Mans victory. It’s called the DBS 59, is based on the DBS Superleggera, and pays homage to the original race-winning car, the DBR1. Aston Martin will only make 24 units of the DBS 59, which is a reference to the 24-hour format of the race.

The main highlight of the throwback special DBS 59 has to be its racing green exterior shade, of course. At the same time, the roof and rear lip spoiler are finished in carbon fibre and they look quite stunning as well. Bronze highlights around badges, front grille and wheels complement the special livery. A Union Flag Aston Martin logo and a numbered roundel on the front wing – with the limited edition car’s production number – complete the list of visual elements on the DBS 59.

Inside the cabin of the DBS 59, the upholstery’s a combination of black and tan leather. The seats get special DBS 59 embossing, while there’s bronze detailing elsewhere. These cars also get special leather helmet pods in the rear compartment to hold special DBS 59 crash helmets, race suits and gloves. Customers can also opt for accessories including blue race overalls complete and replica string-backed racing gloves, inspired by those worn by 1959 Le Mans-winning driver Caroll Shelby. On the mechanical front, the DBS 59 will share the same 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine that churns out 715bhp.

Aston Martin hasn’t announced the price of the DBS 59 as yet, but given the fact that it’s a limited run model and is based on the company’s first Le Mans winner, expect customers to shell out some big dollars for these 24 units.
