Mahindra has issued a voluntary recall of the SsangYong Rexton SUV which is currently on sale in the Indian market.

The SsangYong Rexton SUV has been recalled by Mahindra & Mahindra in India for a suspected fault that has been reported with the rear driveshaft of the vehicle. The exact number of vehicles that have been recalled have still not been disclosed, but reports claim that effected units range from vehicles produced on and before September 2014.

The Rexton was the first vehicle that was launched after Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a majority stake in the Korean manufacturer, and launched the brand in India. The current SsangYong Rexton on sale in India is powered by a 2.7-litre diesel engine that is available with different power output tunings. The RX270 XDI develops a maximum power of 162bhp and 320Nm of torque mated to a manual transmission and the RX270 XVY generates 184bhp and 402Nm of torque which comes with an automatic gearbox.

Mahindra have reportedly stated that the inspection and the subsequent rectification of the fault in the component of the SsangYong Rexton will be carried out at free of cost to customers, who will be notified by the manufacturer individually.

The next generation of the SsangYong Rexton will make its debut in October at the 2016 Paros Motor Show. The SsangYong Tivoli compact-SUV which made its India debut earlier this year at the Auto Expo is also expected to be launched by Mahindra for the Indian market soon.
