Suzuki e Vitara

Suzuki Motor Corporation has revealed its inaugural mass-market battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, taking a major step toward achieving its carbon-neutral goals. The announcement was made during a global event in Milan, signalling the company's official foray into the electric vehicle market. The e Vitara is based on Suzuki's new HEARTECT-e platform, which has been purpose-built for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This platform features a lightweight structure that ensures the protection of high-voltage components while enhancing interior space with its compact layout. The floor design is optimised to accommodate a larger battery, freeing up more space for passengers and luggage. Here's everything you need to know about the EV's design, battery pack, and features.

Suzuki e Vitara: Dimensions

The car has an overall length of 4,275mm, a width of 1,800mm, and a height of 1,635mm, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. The company states that the SUV offers a minimum ground clearance of 180mm, and its kerb weight ranges from 1,702 kg to 1,899 kg, depending on the specific variant.

Suzuki e Vitara: Design Details

The EV closely follows the design language of the eVX concept, retaining features such as the squared-off wheel arches, defined rear haunches, a sloping roofline, and angular headlights with distinctive Y-shaped LED light signatures. However, the production version introduces several changes.

Up front, the car sports a reworked bumper with sharp lines, deeper creases, and lower air intakes designed to direct airflow toward the running gear for enhanced cooling. Fog lamps are positioned at the bottom of the bumper. Like the eVX, the e Vitara emphasises a rugged aesthetic through the generous use of cladding, particularly on the bumpers, doors, side sills, and wheel arches. The concept's flush door handles have been replaced with conventional pull-style handles on the front doors, while the rear has handles mounted on the pillars.

The signature three-bar lighting pattern remains a part of the taillight design. The bumper has been subtly revised, and the rear windshield now has a centrally placed wiper complemented by a wraparound spoiler. The vehicle rolls on either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels wrapped in 225/55 tyres.

Suzuki e Vitara: Mechanical Specs

On the mechanical front, customers can choose between two battery sizes: a 49kWh or a 61kWh lithium-ion phosphate pack, with the larger 61kWh option available on models equipped with an optional all-wheel-drive system. The standard configuration is front-wheel drive, featuring a 142bhp motor with 189Nm of torque integrated into the front axle. Higher-spec trims offer a more powerful 172bhp motor, while the all-wheel-drive models are equipped with an additional 64bhp electric motor in the rear axle, producing a total system output of 181bhp and 300Nm of torque.

The AWD version of the e Vitara comes with the AllGrip-e system, which features a Trail mode. In this mode, the vehicle applies brakes to wheels that lose traction, while directing torque to the other wheels, effectively mimicking the function of a limited-slip differential. Although Suzuki has not provided an official range figure, it was previously mentioned that the larger 61kWh battery is expected to offer a range of over 500 km based on global test cycles.

Suzuki e Vitara: Interior

The interior design of the e Vitara largely reflects the concept shown in renderings from late last year. At the top of the dashboard, two separate displays are housed within a shared bezel, with a soft-touch material running along the lower section, separating the upper and lower parts of the dashboard. A compact row of physical buttons is located between the central air vents, while further down, there is a rotary gear shifter and an electronic parking brake. The upper part of the centre console, which holds the controls, appears to float above, creating extra storage space underneath.

Suzuki has announced that production of the e Vitara will begin at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat facility in spring 2025, with plans to export the vehicle to various international markets. The company also reaffirmed that the e Vitara will be launched in India, with sales anticipated to start by mid-2025.
