Nissan Magnite Launch in India

Nissan launched the Magnite in India with an introductory price of Rs 5.99 lakh earlier this month. The sub-4m SUV competes with the Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Exter and serves as an alternative to Maruti Suzuki's top-selling crossover, the Fronx. We've already compared the new Magnite with the aforementioned Tata and Hyundai SUVs, so now let's see how it stacks up against the Maruti Suzuki Fronx on paper.

Nissan Magnite vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Engine

Both models come with natural aspirated (N/A) and turbo-petrol engine options. The Magnite's 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit produces 71bhp and 96Nm, while the 1-litre turbo-petrol version generates 99bhp and 160Nm. Gearbox options include a CVT automatic (for the turbo-petrol), a five-speed automatic, and a five-speed manual (standard on both engines).

The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine on the Fronx produces 89bhp and 113Nm. In comparison, the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivers 99bhp and 147Nm. The NA petrol unit is available with a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed AMT (automated manual transmission), while the turbo-petrol mill can be paired with either a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission with paddle shifters or a five-speed manual gearbox. The Fronx is also available with a CNG powertrain.

When the N/A petrol engines of the Magnite and Fronx are compared, the former produces less power (18bhp and 17Nm). However, the Nissan SUV's turbo-petrol engine delivers up to 12Nm of torque while maintaining the same power output.

Nissan Magnite vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Dimensions

The all-new Magnite is 22mm taller than the Fronx and has 28 liters more luggage capacity. However, compared to the Nissan SUV, the Fronx crossover is 7mm wider.

Both Nissan and Maruti Suzuki vehicles come with cruise control, wireless phone charging, a 6-speaker sound system, and push-button start/stop. However, the Fronx's larger 9-inch touchscreen gives it an advantage over its competitor. The Nissan SUV, on the other hand, has an 8-inch touchscreen, automatic air conditioning, 4-colour ambient lighting, and wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Unlike the Fronx, it comes with a high-end leatherette seat upholstery.
