The Tata Harrier EV and BYD Atto 3 represent two distinct approaches to the premium electric SUV space in India. While the Harrier EV is based on a familiar ICE platform adapted for electrification, the Atto 3 is a born-electric SUV from BYD that is already on sale. Aimed at similar buyer segments, both models differ significantly in key specifications, including battery capacity, range, power output, and dimensions. The Atto 3 offers a claimed range of up to 521 km and comes with either a 49.92kWh or a 60.48kWh battery, whereas the Harrier EV houses 65kWh and 75kWh battery options. With different design philosophies, tech features, and expected pricing, this comparison highlights what sets these two electric SUVs apart in a fast-growing segment.
The Tata Harrier EV carries a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 21.49 lakh, making it more accessible than the BYD Atto 3, which is priced from Rs 24.99 lakh to Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

While BYD offers a longer range, Tata’s pricing advantage will appeal to buyers looking for a premium EV at a lower entry point.
The Harrier EV leverages a more advanced iteration of its Acti.ev platform and is available with two battery setups. The standard variants are equipped with a 65kWh battery linked to a single motor on the rear axle, producing 235bhp. Meanwhile, the higher-spec versions deliver significantly more performance, thanks to a dual-motor configuration and a larger 75kWh LFP battery, collectively generating 390.5bhp and 504Nm of torque through an all-wheel-drive layout.
On the range front, the 75kWh model is certified for up to 627 km under MIDC testing. However, Tata’s internal C75 real-world cycle estimates the RWD version to cover between 480 and 505km.
Meanwhile, the Atto 3 is offered with a smaller 49.92kWh battery in its base variant, delivering a claimed range of 468 km on a single charge. Buyers can also choose between two higher trims – Premium and Superior – both equipped with a larger 60.48kWh battery pack, which boosts the range to 521 km.
Interestingly, despite the differences in battery size and range, all three versions are powered by the same electric motor mounted on the front axle, producing 201bhp and 310Nm of torque.
Although the Harrier EV’s dashboard closely resembles its ICE counterpart, it distinguishes itself with a refined grey-and-white cabin theme. It also sports a redesigned four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata badge and a premium Samsung Neo QLED infotainment display. Key features include dual-zone climate control, a 10-speaker JBL audio setup with Dolby Atmos 5.1, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated powered front seats, and bi-directional charging via V2L and V2C.
A standout addition is ‘Summon Mode’ – a remote parking function using the keyfob to move the car forward or backward. The 360-degree camera now supports Transparent Mode for better off-road visibility. For varied driving conditions, the EV offers six terrain modes – Normal, Mud Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, Snow/Grass, and Custom – alongside Tata’s Off-Road Assist system, which functions like off-road cruise control.

On the other hand, the BYD Atto 3 comes equipped with an 8-speaker audio setup, a panoramic sunroof, a 6-way powered driver’s seat, and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. It also features a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, hill descent control, ESP, and seven standard airbags. Additional highlights include a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
