Sub-4m SUVs in India continue to be one of the most crowded and competitive segments in the automotive sector, with major players like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Kia, and Hyundai offering multiple products. FY2026 saw this segment sustain its momentum, clocking sales of 12.9 lakh units overall, a growth of 6.3% year-on-year. In this intense competition scenario, the Tata Nexon emerged as the best-selling model in the segment, followed by the Punch and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
The Nexon starts at Rs 7.36 lakh (ex-showroom) in its ICE form, and continues to garner market attention with its well-rounded package of features, performance, and multiple powertrain options. It is offered with petrol, diesel, EV, and CNG options. The SUV’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 118bhp and 170Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel delivers 113bhp and 260Nm. The CNG version uses a 1.2-litre turbocharged bi-fuel unit for 99bhp and 170Nm. In the electric avatar, the EV comes with 30kWh (Medium Range) and 45kWh (Long Range) options, and a claimed range of up to 489 kilometres. The prices for the EV version begin at Rs 12.49 lakh.
Here are the top five best-selling sub-4m SUVs in India in FY2026:
The Tata SUV emerged as the segment leader in FY2026, registering strong demand in the segment. It sold 2.16 lakh units during the period, showing an increase of 32.5% from 1.63 lakh units in FY2025. The consistent popularity of the Nexon SUV can be attributed to its wide powertrain options, technologicall-advanced cabin, and strong safety credentials.

The Punch held the second position among the best-selling sub-4m SUVs despite witnessing a slight slowdown in demand. The micro-SUV recorded sales of 1.84 lakh units in FY2026, compared to 1.97 lakh units in the previous fiscal, marking a 6.4% decline. The Tata Punch SUV received a thorough makeover earlier this year, with major improvements across both the cosmetic and mechanical fronts.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza secured the third spot on the list, even as it saw a marginal dip in yearly sales. The compact SUV posted sales of 1.80 lakh units in FY2026, down 4.8% from 1.89 lakh units in FY2025. It is due for a mid-life cycle update, and the new version is expected to hit showrooms in mid-2026.

The Fronx continued its upward trajectory in FY2026, registering steady growth in sales. The crossover-style SUV recorded 1.72 lakh units, exhibiting a rise of 3.7% from 1.66 lakh units sold in FY2025.

The Venue rounded off the list, maintaining its position despite a slight decline in sales. The SUV recorded 1.18 lakh units in FY2026, compared to 1.19 lakh units in FY2025, reflecting a marginal drop of 1.2%.
