In second place, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza bounced back with strong numbers, moving 16,971 units in April. Although this represents a marginal 1% drop compared to April last year, it improved its position after slipping to third among SUVs and sixth overall in March.
Despite the dip, the Brezza remains the front-runner in the subcompact SUV space and had previously shown a robust 13% growth in March on a YoY basis.
The Brezza has a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine, generating 102bhp at 6,000rpm and 136.8Nm at 4,400rpm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Meanwhile, the Scorpio-N is offered with two engines – a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 200bhp and a 2.2-litre diesel making 173bhp – both available with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Tata’s Nexon continued to maintain its popularity among compact SUV buyers, with April sales standing at 15,457 units. Compared to April 2024’s figure of 11,168 units, this marks an impressive 38% growth. These numbers include both internal combustion engine and electric variants. Despite a minor dip from March’s 16,336 units, the Nexon still managed a strong 16% year-on-year growth that month.
The SUV is available in petrol, diesel, CNG, and EV variants. It offers multiple powertrains, including a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.2-litre bi-fuel CNG. Transmission options vary across models. The EV comes with two battery packs – 30kWh and 45kWh – offering claimed ranges of 275 km and 489 km, respectively.
In fifth place, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx posted stable numbers, recording 14,345 units in April – almost identical to its performance during the same period last year.
