Tata Punch Flex Fuel

The Tata Punch has been a best-seller for the brand, available in a variety of powertrain options, including electric and CNG. At the recent Auto Expo, Tata Motors expanded the Punch lineup with a new— Flex-Fuel version. While the launch of the SUV isn’t confirmed yet, the move shows the company’s commitment to eco-friendly solutions. The Punch Flex-Fuel keeps the same design as the standard model, with no significant changes inside or out. The main update, however, lies under the hood, with the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, now modified to run on ethanol-blended fuels.

A number of mechanical modifications have been introduced to make the engine compatible with flex-fuel, including smart software and an advanced engine control system for automatic ethanol blend adjustment, a heated fuel injection system with high-flow injectors for cold starts, smart ethanol detection, and a new exhaust after-treatment system for reduced emissions.

The introduction of Flex-Fuel technology has long been a way for automakers to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. At the Auto Expo, Hyundai showcased its popular Creta with this new technology. The Flex-Fuel variant is powered by a 1.0-litre GDI turbo petrol engine, delivering 118bhp and 172Nm. (the same engine found in the Hyundai Venue 1.0 and i20). However, this engine has been specially tuned to run solely on ethanol, without any petrol blend, ensuring smooth performance. It’s paired with a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Aside from the addition of Flex-Fuel technology, the SUV's design and features remain unchanged.
