Not so long ago, Tata Motors launched the CNG version of the Punch SUV in the Indian market on August 4, 2023. The micro-SUV with the factory-installed CNG kit is priced from Rs 7.10 lakh to Rs 9.68 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the newest product from the house of Tata Motors available for purchase with a cleaner fuel alternative, and it takes on the recently launched Hyundai Exter, which also comes with a CNG version. At its heart is the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine that produces 72.4bhp and 103Nm of peak torque. A five-speed manual gearbox is paired with the CNG mill. In the petrol mode, the Punch churns out 87bhp and 113Nm. An ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of the newly launched Punch iCNG stands at 26.99km/kg, while its direct competitor – the Hyundai Exter – yields a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.10km/kg.

Tata Altroz CNG Fuel Efficiency Figures

As for the Tata Altroz CNG model, a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox performs the duty. This engine makes 88bhp of maximum power and 115Nm of peak torque in petrol mode, as opposed to 77bhp and 103Nm of torque in CNG mode. Its immediate competitors – the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and the Toyota Glanza CNG – produce a comparable 77bhp but only 98.5Nm of torque while operating on CNG. In addition, unlike its competitors, the Altroz may start in CNG mode right away.

In terms of mileage, the Altroz CNG is claimed to return an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 26.2km/kg. Whereas, the Baleno CNG and the Glanza CNG have relatively higher fuel efficiency of 30.61km/kg. The Altroz CNG is available at a starting price of Rs 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom). With its launch in May 2023, Tata introduced their unique dual-cylinder setup for CNG tanks, making it the first CNG-powered hatchback to include a sunroof.

Tata Altroz CNG: Variants and Colour Options

The model is offered in six different variants: XE, XM+, XM+(S), XZ, XZ+(S), and XZ+O(S). Coming to the colour palette, the car comes in Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, and Avenue White options. Further, it comes with a standard warranty of three years or 1,00,000 kilometre.

Tata Motors Crosses 1 Lakh EV Sales Milestone in India

Tata Motors crossed the 1 lakh electric vehicle sales mark in a span of 5 years. The Indian automotive company claims that it sold about 10,000 units in 44 months, the subsequent 40,000 EVs in 15 months, and the remaining 50,000 products in the last 9 months alone. Tata attributed its sales growth to the Tiago EV, the Tigor EV, and the Nexon EV, with the new Tiago EV becoming the best-seller in the country within a year of its launch in September 2022.

The Tata Nexon EV accounted for more than 50,000 sales since its launch in January 2020. The growing popularity and huge demand for the electric offering can be attributed to the industry-wide GST reduction to 5 per cent on EVs, as opposed to 28 per cent on ICE-powered vehicles.
