Tesla Teases The Upcoming Model Y

Production of this new small electric SUV is expected to commence in 2019-20

Electric car major, Tesla Inc. has released a teaser image of its upcoming SUV offering, Model Y, at a shareholder meeting recently. The American car maker’s CEO, Elon Musk, had previously mentioned about them planning a new product - the Model Y. A teaser image of the Model Y that has now been released, and it seems like a computer-generated rendering which also suggests that there is still a long way to go before production commences.

This first ever teaser image of the Model Y, unsurprisingly, doesn’t quite reveal too many details. In fact, it looks somewhat identical to the Model 3 that is expected to hit the production lines next month. That aside, the absence of ORVMs doesn’t go unnoticed – similar to most concept cars showcased. However, when it comes to mass production, manufacturers are forced to fit their cars with mirrors thanks to safety regulations and the Model Y should be no different.

To be placed under the Model X in Tesla’s product portfolio, it was initially believed that the Model Y will be based on the same platform as the Model 3. But bringing a puzzling end to all speculations, a few months back, Musk shared that the Model Y will make use of an all-new platform that promises to be better than Tesla’s existing products. The improvements will not just be in the end product but also in the manufacturing process. That being said, details about the new platform and the Model Y are too few as of now considering that the earliest it is likely to hit production is in 2019-20.
