Toyota to Launch Maruti Suzuki Fronx-Based Crossover in India, Cosmetic Updates on the Cards

Underneath the bonnet, the Taiser from the house of Toyota could feature the same engine options as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx - A 1.2-litre Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine with 89bhp/113Nm and a 1.0-litre Turbo Boosterjet petrol with 99bhp/148Nm.

The rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is anticipated to make its way to our shores soon. While there is no official communication as of now, Toyota is reportedly planning to introduce a crossover based on the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which in a short period of time has managed to garner massive attention in the market. Could be called the Taisor, the rebranded crossover from the stable of Toyota is expected to hit the Indian market somewhere around the festive season. Toyota's crossover could pack a few cosmetic upgrades. Up front, the new car may get a revised bumper and a updated grille with new headlights. 

On the inside, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx-Based crossover could offer the familiar 9.0-inch HD Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cruise control, automatic climate control, a heads-up display with turn-by-turn navigation, a multi-functional steering wheel, wireless charger, and more. Besides, the interior could also include thematic updates.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx-Based Crossover: Powertrain Options

Underneath the bonnet, the Taiser could receive the same engine options as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. A 1.2-litre Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine on the Fronx produces 89bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 4,400rpm. Another engine on offer is a 1.0-litre Turbo Boosterjet petrol that cranks out 147.6Nm of peak torque between 2,000 and 4,500rpm and 99bhp of maximum power at 5,500rpm. 

For handling transmission duties, a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT unit can be used with the 1.2-litre engine, while the 1.0-litre engine comes mated to a 5-speed MT as well as a 6-speed AT.

In terms of safety features, the crossover is likely to offer multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP with Hill Hold Assist & Rollover Mitigation, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, three-point ELR seatbelts, a 360-degree view camera, parking sensors, and more.  

Maruti Suzuki Fronx-Based Crossover: Underpinnings

Toyota's crossover might feature the lightweight Heartect platform that also underpins the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, however, the official details are not revealed yet. The Baleno hatchback serves as the foundation for the Fronx SUV, which also shares several similarities with the Baleno.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Price, Powertrain

For the uninitiated, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV made its global debut at the Auto Expo 2023. In the Indian market, the SUV retails between Rs 7.47 lakh and Rs 12.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The Renault Kiger, the Nissan Magnite, the Hyundai Venue, the Mahindra XUV300, the Kia Sonet, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza are a few of the compact SUVs that the Fronx competes against in the Indian market.

Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Fronz can be had with two powertrain options. In the petrol mode, a 1.2-litre, K-Series, DualJet, Dual VVT motor develops 89bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,400rpm. The petrol engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic unit. The S-CNG version, on the other hand, churns out 76bhp of maximum power and 98.5Nm of peak torque. This version is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
