Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce a midsize SUV to the Indian market, increasing competition in the country’s SUV segment. The first teaser shows the SUV’s LED tail lamps, which include a three-dimensional design, a central brake lamp, and turn indicators. The design combines styling elements found in the Swift with a practical SUV shape. This SUV will be positioned between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara in Maruti’s range. It targets buyers who want a larger vehicle than the Brezza but at a lower price than the Grand Vitara. Unlike the Grand Vitara, which is sold through Nexa outlets, this model will be available at Maruti’s Arena dealerships, making it more widely accessible.

The SUV will use familiar Maruti engine options. The model will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 101bhp and 139Nm of torque. There will also be a factory-fitted CNG version for those looking to reduce running costs. There is a possibility of a strong-hybrid option similar to the Grand Vitara’s to offer a balance between performance and efficiency.
This launch fits with Maruti’s plan to increase its range of hybrid and electric vehicles in India. The company recently started exporting the e-Vitara, its first all-electric SUV, to over 100 countries. The new midsize SUV will provide buyers in India with more efficient choices while maintaining practicality.

To support this move towards electrification, Maruti has begun local production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant, a collaboration with Toshiba and Denso. With more than 80% local content, this supports the development of India’s EV industry. Given its extensive sales and service network, Maruti’s new SUV is set to compete strongly with the Hyundai Creta in the midsize SUV category.
