Updated Tata Tiago NRG launch on August 4

The Tata Tiago NRG is making a comeback in the BS6 form. Along with an updated drivetrain, the Tiago NRG is expected with a new fascia and styling tweaks that are more in line with the Tiago hatchback.

The BS6 version of the Tata Tiago NRG is on its way. The Tata Tiago NRG was phased out of the market when the facelift Tata Tiago was launched sometime last year. Now, Tata Motors has scheduled the launch of the 2021 (BS6) Tiago NRG for August 4, 2021.

The updates are likely to be cosmetic and the new crossover hatchback will pack in more features than before. The changes we expect on the exterior are redesigned headlamp and taillamp elements. The grille and the bumpers are likely to sport a new design – more in line with the fascia of the outgoing Tiago hatchback.

The Tiago NRG’s body cladding that gives it a crossover-ish appearance will be retained. A new set of alloy wheels are likely to be on cards. Features such as 7-inch touch-operated infotainment system with an eight-speaker Harman audio system –  with Android Auto and Apple Carplay – will be offered with the updated model. The cabin will continue with the same layout and design but we expect the addition of new colour schemes for dashboard elements and seats.

The updated Tata Tiago NRG will borrow its powertrain from the outgoing Tiago. A BS6 compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine will be offered with Tiago NRG with a five-speed manual and an optional AMT. The power figures are expected to be very close to that of the Tiago hatchback – 85bhp and 113Nm.

The pricing is likely to be a shade above the cost of Tata Tiago. We reckon the 2021 Tata Tiago NRG will be positioned between Rs 5.25-6.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The key rival to the Tata Tiago NRG is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X that is priced from Rs 5.11 lakh (ex-showroom).
