Volkswagen Ameo diesel priced at Rs. 6.33 lakh

Volkswagen India introduces the Ameo diesel in both manual and automatic (DSG) variants.

Volkswagen India has finally launched the diesel version of the Ameo compact-sedan. Prices of the Ameo diesel start at Rs 6.33 lakh and go up to Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Ameo diesel is available in 5 trims comprising three manual and two automatic (DSG) variants.

Powering the Ameo diesel is the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that comes fitted in the Vento. However, in the Ameo, the engine has been uprated to develop 108bhp @ 4,000rpm while torque remains identical at 250Nm, kicking in between 1,500 - 3,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The DSG version returns an ARAI-certified fuel economy of 21.73km/l while the fuel efficiency of the manual version hasn’t been revealed at the moment.

Like the petrol version, the diesel Ameo is also very well equipped. Among some of the highlights, the Ameo comes with cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, a touch-screen infotainment system, rear parking camera, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and retracting ORVMs, auto-dimming IRVM, tilt and telescopic adjust steering wheel, etc. Safety net on the Ameo includes ABS and dual-airbags as standard while the DSG variants also come with ESP and hill hold control.

Commenting on the launch of the Ameo diesel, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “We have witnessed a successful launch of our made-in-India and made-for-India Ameo Petrol during the summer this year. Now with the Ameo Diesel being introduced during the festivities, we have an opportunity to cater to a wider set of customers, thereby further expanding the Volkswagen family. Ameo diesel will be equipped with a 5-speed manual and our very popular 7-speed DSG gearbox transmission making it the most compelling proposition in the segment.”

Given the prices and the equipment it packs, the Volkswagen Ameo diesel has been priced quite competitively, we've to say. Speaking of the competition, the Ameo goes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki DZire, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest.

Trendline (MT) - Rs 6.33 lakh
Comfortline (MT) - Rs 7.35 lakh
Comfortline (DSG) - Rs 8.50 lakh
