Volkswagen Taigun Production Commenced On Assembly Line

While we are still waiting for an official price announcement of the new mid-size SUV, Volkswagen India has already begun its production.

Volkswagen India has commenced the production of its upcoming Taigun at its Chakan facility in Pune. The price announcement of the new SUV is scheduled for the end of August 2021, and its deliveries are expected to begin by mid-September.

The brand has already started accepting bookings for the Volkswagen Taigun at a token amount of Rs 25,000. The new SUV can be booked at Volkswagen’s authorised dealerships or via its official online portal.

Additionally, Volkswagen has introduced an interesting concept called the ‘Taigun Squad’. Interested customers can register with the brand and have a chance to enrol themselves into the new ‘Taigun Squad’. The new membership offers benefits of Rs 5,000, which can be redeemed at the time of purchasing the extended warranty, service pack for two years, or other accessories.

The Taigun will be sold with two engine options – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder mill and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Both engines are turbocharged units, powered by petrol. The Taigun – just as its cousin, the Skoda Kushaq – misses out on the diesel powertrain option. The smaller capacity engine gets a six-speed transmission as standard, with an optional six-speed torque converter auto-box.  The larger capacity engine in the Taigun gets a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option, while the standard model gets a six-speed manual unit.

The pricing is expected between Rs 10 and 15 lakh (ex-showroom). The Volkswagen Taigun will mainly rival the Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
