Volkswagen is set to launch the Tayron R-Line SUV in India tomorrow, 19 February. This significant addition introduces a new three-row flagship model to the brand’s local portfolio, positioned at the very top of its premium SUV line-up. To ensure competitive positioning, the SUV will be assembled in India through CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits and sold via authorised Volkswagen dealerships nationwide. While the company will announce official prices for the SUV tomorrow, bookings are already open with a token amount of Rs 51,000.

Deliveries are expected to begin soon after the price announcement as the brand adds a new three-row option to its India portfolio.
The new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line measures over 4.7 metres in length and is built upon the versatile MQB platform used extensively across the Volkswagen Group. This India-spec SUV features a versatile three-row layout with seating for seven passengers, making it a practical choice for large families. The vehicle rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and carries distinct R-Line styling updates that differentiate it from its smaller siblings.

The front fascia is dominated by a signature grille featuring an integrated light bar, LED headlamps, and aggressive R-Line bumpers. At the rear, the design is rounded off by connected LED tail-lamps, a roof spoiler, and functional roof rails. These dual-tone alloy wheels and sharp aesthetic touches provide the premium look expected from a flagship model.
The cabin gets a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multi-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof are included. The front seats offer electric adjustment, ventilation and massage functions.

The second row can slide and recline, while the third row gets air vents and charging ports. Other features include a head-up display, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging and a powered tailgate. The layout focuses on space and comfort for both city use and long drives.
The Tayron R-Line uses a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox. The engine produces 201bhp and 320Nm. Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system comes as standard. The SUV also gets drive modes and an electronic differential lock. It can go from 0 to 100km/h in about 7.3 seconds and has a top speed above 220km/h.

Safety equipment includes nine airbags, electronic stability control and tyre pressure monitoring. The SUV will also offer adaptive cruise control, lane assist and autonomous emergency braking. A 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and hill descent control are part of the package. The Tayron R-Line will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian.
