Volkswagen’s new Tayron SUV has earned a 5-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP crash tests, confirming its strong performance in key safety categories. The vehicle scored highly in adult and child occupant protection, and pedestrian and safety assist evaluations. The German carmaker has integrated a host of standard safety features into the Tayron, engineered to help avoid collisions before they occur. Volkswagen says the new Tayron embodies the brand’s wider objective of embedding high safety standards throughout its range, ensuring dependable crash protection regardless of model type or accident conditions. Built on the MQB Evo platform and positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg, the Tayron went on sale in Europe in March 2025 and is produced in Wolfsburg, Germany. This result reinforces Volkswagen’s focus on meeting rigorous safety standards in its newest models.
Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) evaluated the Tayron based on four key criteria: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection (including pedestrians and cyclists), and the effectiveness of driver assistance and accident prevention systems. The SUV scored 87% for Adult Occupant safety, 85% for Child Occupant safety, 83% for Vulnerable Road User protection, and 80% for Safety Assist.
As for safety equipment, the latest-generation Tayron is equipped with a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems, even in its base model. Standard features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, Lane Assist for active lane keeping, and a Dynamic Road Sign Display. It also offers a predictive speed limiter and Adaptive Cruise Control with “stop & go” functionality to help maintain safe distances in traffic.

Additional systems, such as Side Assist for lane changes, support for turning with oncoming vehicle detection, and swerve assistance further enhance on-road awareness. The Tayron also includes a Driver Attention Monitor, Driver Alert System, Front Cross Traffic Assist, and an exit warning system – each designed to prevent or mitigate collisions. In case of impact, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System activates to reduce the risk of secondary crashes.
Beyond active safety tech, the Tayron features a comprehensive set of passive safety elements as part of its standard equipment. This includes an Emergency Call Service valid for 10 years, front airbags for the driver and passenger (with deactivation for the front passenger airbag), side and curtain airbags for both rows, and a centre airbag at the front. Safety-optimised head restraints, three-point seat belts with tensioners, and acoustic and visual seat belt reminders are also present.
