Volvo XC90- New vs Old: What's Different?

The updated Volvo XC90 is now available in India for Rs 1.03 crore (ex-showroom), showing a Rs 2 lakh price increase from its predecessor, which was priced at Rs 1.01 crore. While the SUV remains unchanged in terms of its mechanical setup, it comes with several key updates, both inside and out. Despite these improvements, the new model retains much of the design and features of its predecessor. In terms of competition, the updated XC90 continues to square off against rivals like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Audi Q7. Let’s take a closer look at the upgrades that the facelift brings over the previous model.

The all-new XC90 retains its iconic silhouette, but subtle design tweaks justify the price increase. The grille now features diagonal slats, while the signature ‘Thor’ hammer headlights are sleeker than before. Also contributing to the update are the revised front bumper and vertical air dams. While features such as the body cladding, wheel arches, window design, and door handles stay the same, the newly designed 20-inch alloy wheels elevate the SUV's overall look.

The rear highlights are a tweaked bumper with sharp cuts, slender LED taillamps, and an integrated rear spoiler. The 2025 XC90 now offers a bold new Mulberry Red colour option, in addition to the available shades of Onyx Black, Crystal White, Denim Blue, Bright Dusk, and Vapour Grey.

The most prominent highlight of the XC90’s interior is a larger, higher-resolution 11.2-inch touchscreen with a refreshed, Google-powered UI and over-the-air update capabilities. For reference, the outgoing model had a smaller 9-inch unit. Other updates include more storage, a cup holder, and a relocated wireless charger.

In terms of interior customisation, the carmaker now offers three new leather upholstery options—black, off-white, and light brown—replacing the former maroon and brown choices. Other than this, the all-new XC90 continues to offer a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, a panoramic sunroof, an air purifier with a PM2.5 filter, and powered front seats with memory function.

Continuing its commitment to safety, the refreshed XC90 offers the same robust safety features as before, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with features like an electronic parking brake, and lane keep assist.

Powertrain

The SUV retains its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with 48V mild-hybrid technology that delivers 253bhp and 360 Nm. It has an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and a top speed of 180km/h. The 0 to 100km/h acceleration time is 7.7 seconds.
