Aprilia is under pressure as the RS457 motorcycle faces multiple customer complaints in India over engine failure issues. Many owners have reported problems on social media, calling for full replacements. These claims have sparked concern and damaged the reputation of the RS457. Positioned in the mid-capacity sportbike segment, it was initially well-received for its lightweight design and solid performance. However, repeated reports of engine trouble have emerged in recent months, forcing Aprilia India to release an official statement. The rising number of complaints has shifted focus from its successful launch to its long-term reliability.

The statement states: 'At Aprilia, our commitment extends beyond delivering exhilarating motorcycles; we are equally dedicated to providing unparalleled after-sales support and service. We are aware of recent discussions among a small segment of motorcycle enthusiasts concerning the “reliability” of the 457 platform.

'We want to unequivocally assure our esteemed customers and the broader motorcycling fraternity that Aprilia has meticulously investigated every single of the handful instances brought to our attention regarding alleged issues. A majority of these “issues” are attributed to only two factors – Unauthorised Aftermarket Modifications and Irregular Service Schedules. For the few genuine cases that arose, we promptly addressed and resolved them in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to our customers.

'For riders seeking to enhance their stock RS 457, we strongly encourage the installation of our extensive range of genuine aftermarket accessories, available exclusively through authorised Aprilia service centers.'

The Aprilia RS457 is priced at Rs 4.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and aimed at sportbike buyers seeking performance at a competitive price. While Aprilia maintains a positive outlook, the brand risks losing customer trust if it does not resolve the engine failure complaints from the RS 457 owners. The company’s next steps will be crucial in restoring confidence among current and future RS457 buyers.
