Ather Energy has rolled out 5 lakh electric scooter from its Hosur, Tamil Nadu facility, marking a significant production milestone for the Bengaluru-based EV maker. The company, which started operations in 2013, has now completed over a decade in India’s electric two-wheeler market. The milestone vehicle was the Ather Rizta, launched last year, which has emerged as one of the company’s most popular offerings, contributing over one-third of its total production so far. The achievement comes amid steady growth in demand, with sales increasing both in large urban centres and smaller towns, reflecting the wider acceptance of electric scooters among Indian riders.

The Hosur plant remains at the core of Ather’s manufacturing push. Spread across two units, it handles vehicle assembly and battery production, offering a combined annual capacity of 4.2 lakh units. The facility has helped Ather keep pace with demand from metro markets while also making inroads into tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Company officials say strict quality control measures and streamlined production processes have been key to maintaining consistent output, especially as the EV sector continues to see new entrants and rising competition.
Looking ahead, Ather is building a new facility in Maharashtra. The plant will be developed in two phases and incorporate Industry 4.0 manufacturing systems to improve efficiency. Once operational, it is expected to take Ather’s total production capacity to 1.42 million units annually.
Meanwhile, Ather’s charging infrastructure has been growing alongside its manufacturing capacity. Ather Grid fast-charging network now has over 4,000 public chargers in India and has expanded into neighbouring markets in Nepal and Sri Lanka. The network is aimed at addressing range anxiety among riders and making electric commuting more practical by improving access to charging points.

With its manufacturing, infrastructure, and product portfolio expanding in tandem, Ather appears well placed to remain a key player in India’s evolving electric mobility market.
