Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has confirmed a clear shift in its motorsport strategy, and this one stands out. The company is now entering the off-road racing space in India, with its focus moving towards rally and supercross formats. This change comes after the brand noticed a steady shift in rider interest, with more people leaning towards off-road and all-terrain riding. This move also brings HMSI closer to Honda’s global motorsport approach. Globally, Honda already competes in rally, motocross, and endurance racing. By introducing these formats in India, HMSI aims to match its international direction and support the growth of off-road racing in the country.

HMSI has spent years in Indian motorsport. It started with the Honda One Make Race in 2008 and later became a part of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship. The company also focused on rider training programmes, using machines like the NSF250R Moto3-spec bike to develop skills for track racing.

Now, things are changing. Off-road racing is gaining attention because it is more accessible and easier for fans to connect with. Riders are also moving towards formats that offer varied terrain and different challenges. HMSI has recognised this trend and is now reshaping its racing programme to focus more on rally and supercross.

This shift will also affect future products. HMSI is looking at expanding its motorcycle line-up with more adventure and off-road-focused models. With a race-to-road approach, the company plans to bring learnings from racing into its production bikes.

At the same time, HMSI wants to create new opportunities for Indian riders. With a proper off-road racing structure, riders will get a chance to move into international formats. Rally and supercross will help them build the skills needed to compete on a global level.
