Honda overtakes Hero as India’s top two-wheeler maker in July 2025, driven by strong sales growth and new launches like the CB125 Hornet and Shine 100 DX.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has overtaken Hero MotoCorp to claim the top spot in the Indian two-wheeler market, ending Hero’s long-standing run as market leader. Hero, which sold 4,99,693 units as recently as May 2025, lost over 1.6 lakh units in just two months. This shift reflects how fast the competition in the two-wheeler market can change.
Honda’s rise in the Indian motorcycle and scooter market has been steady over the past few months. In July 2025, the brand posted a 19.94% jump in sales compared to June 2025, when it sold 3,88,812 units. On a year-on-year basis, Honda’s July 2025 sales were up by 6.20% compared to July 2024, when it dispatched 4,39,118 units. This growth shows how Honda is steadily strengthening its position in India.

One of the biggest drivers of Honda’s growth has been its product launch strategy. The company introduced several new two-wheelers in quick succession, such as the Honda CB125 Hornet and Shine 100 DX, appealing to different rider groups. By adding fresh models and updating its range, Honda has been able to stay relevant and meet changing consumer needs.
The new Honda CB125 Hornet, priced at Rs 1.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Gurugram), is now open for bookings. It is designed for city riders and comes with full-LED lighting, a 4.2-inch TFT display with Honda RoadSync connectivity, and golden upside-down front forks. These features make it an attractive choice for buyers looking for a mix of technology and comfort in the 125cc segment.

This launch, along with favourable market trends, has helped Honda strengthen its leadership in the Indian two-wheeler market.
