Hyundai is betting big on India with the introduction of its global luxury brand, Genesis. While a final confirmation is still pending, the company has hinted at evaluating the brand's entry into the Indian market to target luxury car buyers. Genesis offers a range of models, such as the G70 sports sedan and the GV80 mid-size SUV, in the international market. Although it’s too early to comment on specific model launches, it is anticipated that Genesis will focus on the SUV segment in India, given the strong demand for this body type.
Sharing his thoughts on the development, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, 'We are also strategically evaluating the introduction of Genesis, Hyundai’s global luxury marque, to redefine luxury through innovation, design, and differentiated experiences. This aligns with our aspiration to serve the evolving expectations of discerning Indian consumers.'

Hyundai has not disclosed any specific information regarding Genesis's launch in India. Industry reports, however, indicate that the brand will first opt for a CBU (Completely Built Unit) route to bring its luxury range to India. Hyundai may consider local assembly of these products at its Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu at a later stage to make vehicles more price-competitive. The sales and service experience will be a key focus with dedicated showrooms and a premium after-sales service network. Hyundai’s established presence and extensive dealer network could provide a strong foundation for Genesis to build its presence in India.
Hyundai is planning a major product expansion in India with 26 new models by 2030. The ambitious strategy includes a mix of 20 internal combustion engine (ICE) models and six EVs.
