In July 2024, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recorded total sales of 64,563 units, of which 15,550 were exported and 49,013 were sold domestically. This represents a 3.2% year-on-year (YoY) dip. Moreover, the domestic dispatch of cars to dealers fell 3.3% to 49,013 units in July 2024, from 50,701 units the previous year. Exports saw a 2.81% YoY decline to 15,550 units, indicating similar challenges. Meanwhile, the South Korean carmaker's total sales stood at over 4.50 lakh units from January to July this year, representing a 4.31% year-over-year increase.

Commenting on the latest sales performance, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director, and Chief Operating Officer of HMIL said, 'We have posted an overall sales growth of 4.31% year-on-year in the period of January to July 2024. SUVs continue to demonstrate a robust contribution, accounting for 66.6% of total HMIL domestic sales. Hyundai Creta Remains the Major Contributor

The SUV segment has been a major component of HMIL's domestic market; in 2024, they accounted for 66.6% of all domestic sales. The new Hyundai Creta, which went on sale in January and sold 1 lakh units by July 2024, is a major contributor to this feat. Furthermore, with 17,350 units sold last month, the SUV achieved its highest-ever monthly domestic sales figure.

The Creta has a range of engine options: a 1.5-litre normally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel engine, and a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The first two units, which produce 250Nm/114bhp and 144Nm/113bhp, respectively, were updated to meet the stricter BS6 Phase II emission norms. The new turbo GDi petrol engine, on the other hand, delivers 158bhp and 253Nm of peak torque. There are four gearbox options: a six-speed manual, an IVT, a traditional seven-speed DCT, and a six-speed automatic.

Twin-cylinder Exter CNG Launched

Hyundai Exter Front and Side View

Hyundai has launched the Exter Hy-CNG Duo in India. The model, which starts at Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom), comes equipped with twin-cylinder CNG technology. This tech uses two smaller CNG cylinders with a total capacity of 60 litres, resulting in more boot room than standard CNG cars with a single-cylinder setup. Previously, Hyundai's Exter CNG model only had a single cylinder. The Hy-CNG Duo comes in three variants – S, SX, and SX Knight Edition.

The car is powered by a 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel (Petrol with CNG) engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The twin-cylinder tanks have an integrated electronic control unit (ECU), allowing a seamless transition from petrol to CNG or vice versa. In CNG mode, the Exter puts out 68bhp of maximum power and 95.2Nm of peak torque, while the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency is rated at 27.1km/kg. Hyundai's factory-installed CNG kit comes with a 3-year warranty.
