Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Eeco Recalled with Over 87,000 Units Affected, Faulty Steering Tie Rod to be Replaced

Owners of the impacted Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the Eeco will be contacted by their respective Maruti Suzuki-authorised dealers, and the necessary replacement of the faulty part will be made free of cost.

Over 87,000 units of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the Eeco have been voluntarily recalled in India over a faulty steering tie rod. The Indian arm of the Japanese manufacturer said that this recall was issued to address a potential issue with a part of the steering tie rod, which could be a serious cause of concern for the user as the part may break and affect vehicle steerability and handling. The recall applies to 87,599 units of the S-Presso and the Eeco manufactured between July 5, 2021 and February 15, 2023, according to the recall notice. In order to resolve this problem, owners of the affected vehicles will be soon contacted by their respective Maruti Suzuki-authorised dealers, and the necessary replacement of the faulty part will be made free of cost.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Eeco: Past Recalls

This is the fourth recall by Maruti Suzuki in 2023. The Indian carmaker recalled more than 17,000 units of the S-Presso, Eeco, Alto K10, Grand Vitara, and the Baleno in January 2023 to detect a possible defect in the airbag controller unit, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. The impacted units were manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023. 

Also in April 2023, more than 7,000 units of the Baleno RS were recalled by Maruti Suzuki India owing to a suspected fault in the vacuum pump that aids braking. So far this year, 1,23,351 vehicles have been recalled by the Indian manufacturer.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso: Powertrain, Price

The MT and AMT variants of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso are available at a starting price of Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 5.76 lakh, respectively. The CNG version, on the other hand, carries a starting price of Rs 5.91 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom.

Under the hood, the BS6 Phase II-compliant S-Presso receives a 1.0-litre K10C engine that outputs 66bhp of power and 89Nm of torque. There is a choice of a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT gearbox, for handling transmission. The car claims a fuel efficiency of 25.30km/l for the AMT version and up to 24.6km/l for the manual version. When running on CNG, the S-Presso produces 58bhp/78Nm and has a claimed fuel efficiency of around 32.7km/kg. 

Maruti Suzuki Eeco: Powertrain, Price

The Maruti Suzuki Eeco van comes powered by a 1.2-litre, K-Series, Dual-Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine that churns out 80bhp and 104.4Nm. On offer is a five-speed manual transmission. Whereas, the same motor generates 71bhp and 95Nm of maximum torque in the CNG version. For the petrol and CNG models, the fuel economy is claimed to be 20.2 km/l and 27.05km/kg, respectively.

Prices for the Eeco van start at Rs 5.70 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 6.52 lakh (ex-showroom) for the five-seater CNG variant.
