Maruti Suzuki to make an entry into the LCV segment in India with the launch of its affordable Super Carry.

Maruti Suzuki will be officially entering the light commercial vehicle soon in India with the launch of its Super Carry by the end of August 2016. While Maruti Suzuki is mostly viewed as a passenger vehicle maker in India, its parent company Suzuki has been making the affordable Super Carry commercial vehicle for over five and a half decades now, since the year 1961. Of course, keener readers will point out that Maruti Suzuki has been selling commercial versions of the Omni and Eeco in the market for a while now.

With the new Super Carry though Maruti Suzuki is going all out and will also setup different outlets to sell and distribute its new light commercial vehicle across India. As of now it has been reported that the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry will initially go on sale in just a few cities. Although, the Super Carry makes tremendous sense as a last mile commercial vehicle and should perform very well as an affordable and reliable commercial vehicle in smaller towns and villages.

Priced at Rs. 4.01 lakh (ex-showroom Ludhiana), the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry has a maximum payload capacity of 740kg and is powered by the same 793cc, twin cylinder, turbo diesel engine that does duty in the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel. Although in the Super Carry, the motor has been detuned to develop a mere 31bhp of power and 75Nm of torque. The Super Carry comes with an ARAI claimed fuel efficiency figure of 22.07 km/l.

The Maruti Super Carry is underpinned by McPherson strut front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension in keeping with its load carrying nature in mind. Front brakes are discs while there are drums at the rear.

And since this is an entry-level commercial vehicle equipment level is sparse with just a power socket in the dashboard, provision for fitting a single-DIN stereo and a lockable glove box. The vehicle gets wind down windows and no air conditioning.

Going up against other LCVs such as the Tata Ace, etc Maruti Suzuki will be offering the Super Carry with a 2 year / 72,000 kilometer warranty. Although, the 72,000 km figure leaves us a bit puzzled.
