Mercedes-Benz India recently announced its retail sales figures from January to September 2023, i.e. the first nine months of the year. In the stated time period, the German luxury car marquee delivered a total of 12,768 units in the country. This represents an 11 per cent year-over-year (YoY) sales growth over the corresponding period last year. In comparison, the automaker sold 11,469 units in the same period in 2022. Mercedes-Benz claims that a significant sales surge was recorded despite supply constraints that restricted the September quarter's availability of SUV models like the GLA, the GLC, and the GLS. Furthermore, about 25 per cent of cumulative sales were made up of top-end vehicles (TEVs), such as the GLS, the S-Class, the GLS Maybach, the S-Class Maybach, the AMGs, and the EQS.

Mercedes-Benz Sales

The E-Class was Mercedes-Benz's best-selling model in India between January and September. Despite global vehicle supply limitations, the manufacturer claims that there was "very high demand" for the recently released GLC. The company stated in a press release that in the same time period, demand for its flagship models, which include the S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach, AMGs, and EQS, increased by up to 22 per cent. An appealing product lineup and solid market conditions are all contributing to the maker's robust festive demand.

The all-new EQS 580 luxury sedan and the EQE 500 SUV, which are both part of the company's BEV line, have maintained their popularity with customers. The Mercedes-Benz model that sold the most units was the LWB E-Class. However, the auto major acknowledged that supply-chain restrictions during the said period limited the availability of several well-known SUVs, including - the GLA, the GLC, and the GLS.

Apart from this, Mercedes-Benz is also helping devoted customers who want to switch from ICE to BEV by giving them a Sustainability Loyalty Bonus for switching to an EV. The brand will also cover 50 per cent of the road tax for each EQB, EQS, or EQE SUV sold this month. It is important to note that only the states where road tax is charged at the time of registration for electric vehicles are eligible for the 50 per cent road tax subsidy.
