One of the nation's top producers of passenger cars, Tata Motors, has revealed its sales figures for January 2024 in a recent regulatory filing. The car manufacturer experienced a 12 per cent increase in year-over-year sales last month, selling 54,033 cars in the domestic market. In comparison, in January last year, the firm delivered 48,289 units. From 302 passenger vehicles sold in January 2023 to 400 units in other overseas markets last month, the automaker saw a 32 per cent increase in exports. The firm has benefited from the increasing demand for its SUVs, especially the Nexon and the Punch compact SUVs. It now sells seven PVs (Altroz, Tigor, Tiago, Punch, Harrier, and Safari) in the home market. Concurrently, Tata sold 6,979 electric vehicles in January 2024, up 69 per cent from 4,133 EVs sold in the same month the previous year. The producer remained the third-biggest automobile maker in India based on volume in January.

Although there was some improvement in the passenger car sector, sales of commercial vehicles were not positive. The company sold 32,092 total CVs last month, a slight 2 per cent decrease from the 32,780 cars sold in the same month the previous year. Small cargo and pick-up vehicle sales decreased 7 per cent to 13,122 units, while heavy commercial vehicle sales had the biggest decline of 11 per cent to 8,906 units. While sales of intermediate CVs continued to decline, sales of passenger carrier vehicles increased dramatically, rising by 36 per cent to 3,872 units. Regarding global operations, Tata Motors saw a 33 per cent YoY increase in January 2024 with the export of 1,449 CVs. In comparison to January 2023, when it sold 81,069 automobiles, Tata Motors Limited sold 86,125 vehicles in total in January 2024 in domestic and overseas markets, a YoY increase of 6.2 per cent.

Tata Motors Pavillion at the Bharat Mobility Show 2024

In other news, Tata Motors showcased a range of products at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Show. These models comprised the Harrier EV Concept, the Altroz Racer, the Nexon EV Dark, the Curvv SUV, and the Nexon i-CNG.

The Curvv made its debut in a near-production-ready avatar. This version's engine is a 1.5-litre diesel with 113bhp. Furthermore, there have been some visual improvements. These include redesigned headlight and foglamp housings, an updated front bumper, and an LED lightbar with corner extensions that resemble the Nexon SUV's. The grille is blanked out and has a black finish instead of the original body colour. Additionally, a newly installed air vent is located between the housing number plate and the grille. The Curvv has dimensions of 1,810mm in width, 1,630mm in height, and 4,308mm in length. The car has a 422-litre storage and a 2,560mm wheelbase.

Regarding features, the Curvv is expected to have a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo in the center, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, air purifier, ventilated front seats, a premium audio system, a wireless charging pad, and more.

Another highlight of the Tata stand was the Harrier EV concept. It is built on Tata's acti.ev Gen 2 EV architecture, which is also the foundation for the recently released Tata Punch.ev. The internal combustion engine-powered SUV's Omega platform and the new architecture work together to provide an all-wheel-drive system and interior changes.

The carmaker has not yet provided any technical information. It is known, nevertheless, that the next Harrier electric SUV will include a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. In terms of the battery pack, anticipate that the SUV will have a 60kWh battery that will provide a 400–500 kilometre range. Comfort features and technologies like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) will also be available with the car. On top of that, the interior of the five-seater Harrier EV will likely boast a sizable touchscreen infotainment system with OTA updates and connected car technology. A 360-degree camera for safety and the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) are additional components.
