Red Bull Racing's Adrian Newey Named 2024 World Car Person of the Year

With a successful voyage of about 35 years in Formula 1 and more than 200 victories for his designed cars, Red Bull Racing's Adrian Newey is a well-known name in the industry.

Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull Racing — Adrian Newey — has been awarded the highly coveted title of World Car Person of the Year for 2024. A highly strong, talented, and driven group of industry professionals qualified as finalists this year. Among these globally recognised nominees were CV Raman, Chief Technology Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, Lisa Reeves, Head of Interior Design at Volvo Cars, Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President of Connected Company Development at BMW Group, and finally, Andreas Preuninger of Porsche GT. For Red Bull Racing and its supporters worldwide, Adrian Newey's victory brings immense happiness. The renowned Adrian Newey, an aerodynamicist and one of the most successful designers in the auto business, is well-known to Formula 1 fans across the globe. Since the early 1990s, he has directed and helped with the successful development of Formula One cars. Interestingly, the RB19, the most dominant race car in F1 history, was the product of Adrian Newey's design prowess. It won 21 of the 22 races in 2023, enabling Red Bull to claim its sixth World Championship and Max Verstappen his third.

World Car Person of The Year: Criteria for Eligibility 

The accomplishments of potential competitors in the worldwide automotive arena are used to assess eligibility for the World Car Person of the Year Award. Their work may involve an enormous influence on their brand or business, along with significant improvements in safety, engineering, design, technology innovation, or additional buyer advantages.

World Car Person of The Year: The List of Previous Winners

Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO of the Volvo Car Group, took home the inaugural World Car of the Year Award in 2018, which is when this prominent title was first introduced. It was awarded in 2019 to Sergio Marchionne, Ferrari's chairman and CEO, FCA's CEO, and CNH Industrial's chairman. The winners of the award were Carlos Tavares, CEO of PSA Group, in 2020, and Akio Toyoda, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation, in 2021. Further, Luc Donckerwolke, Executive VP for Design and Chief Creative Officer, of Hyundai Motor Group, won in 2022, while SangYup Lee, Executive VP, Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center, Hyundai Motor Company, earned the coveted title in 2023.

2024 World Car of the Year Top 10 Finalists Announced

Together with the top five finalists in each of the six vehicle categories, the World Car Awards also revealed the top 10 contenders for the 2024 World Car of the Year award. Among these are World Performance Car of the Year, World Electric Car of the Year, and World Luxury Car of the Year. The excitement will build as the field of participants is reduced to the Top Three in the World, which will be disclosed at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) on February 26. However, the winners of each section will be revealed live on March 27 during the 2024 New York International Auto Show.
