Tata Tiago Hits 5 Lakh Unit Sales Mark in India, Last 1 Lakh Units Sold Within 15 Months

The Tata Tiago hatchback has achieved a significant sales milestone of 5 lakh units in India. According to the carmaker, the 500,000^th unit was rolled out from Tata Motor’s Sanand facility in Gujarat, India. Tata Motors, a home-grown auto giant, offers the ICE-powered Tiago model in the country at a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh, which goes all the way to Rs 8.11 lakh (ex-showroom). In the past 15 months, 1 lakh units of the Tata Tiago have been sold in India, according to the company. In its official press release, the company mentioned that the average age of Tiago customers is 35 years. Metropolitan markets account for 60% of the sales, while rural areas account for the remaining 40%. Also, about 10% of the Tiago’s customers are female.

Tata Tiago: Mechanical Details

The Tiago is available with three different powertrain choices: Electric, CNG, and Petrol. A 1.2-litre normally-aspirated petrol engine, capable of delivering a maximum of 84bhp and a peak torque of 113Nm, powers both the petrol and CNG versions. This engine uses either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic for transmission. The CNG version, on the other hand, only gets a manual gearbox and offers 72bhp and 95Nm. The Tiago EV is available with two battery packs: 19.2kWh, and 24kWh. While the former features a 45kW electric motor and takes 6.2 seconds to reach 60km/h, the latter gets a 55kW electric motor and can accelerate from 0 to 60km/h in 5.7 seconds. The smaller 19.2kWh battery offers a driving range of 250km, while the larger battery pack of 24kWh offers a range of 315km.

Tata Motors PV Sales Clocked 1.40 Lakh Units in Q1 FY2024 in India

According to data released by Tata Motors for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, the carmaker witnessed an 8% year-over-year (YoY) increase in sales, selling 140,120 passenger vehicles (including electric vehicles) in the domestic market. Its exports showed a staggering gain of 63% over Q1 FY23. In June 2023, 47,325 units were sold in the domestic market, compared to 45,197 units in June 2022. Further, its overall sales in June were 47,359 units, which represents a 5% increase over the same time in the previous fiscal year.
