October was a record-breaking month for the Volkswagen Virtus, as the premium sedan sold 2,453 units – its highest ever. Launched in India on June 9, 2022, as a successor to the Vento, the Virtus has been one of the strongest contributors to the brand's performance in India. According to the automaker, the car accounted for 40% market share in the premium sedan segment over the last two months. Volkswagen attributes the steady demand to the Virtus’s combination of precise German engineering, eye-catching design, thrilling performance, and premium safety features. Together with the Taigun SUV, the Virtus sedan collectively crossed the sales mark of 1.60 lakh units in the country.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said, 'We are grateful to the loyal Volkswagen customers who have made the Virtus an undisputed leader in the premium sedan segment for nearly 20 months in a row. The Virtus is not just a statement of style and performance, but has truly attained a cult car status similar to many iconic Volkswagen cars, thanks to its well-rounded package. We are delighted to see Virtus sustain and record meaningful growth in the premium sedan segment with a share of over 40 % in just 40 Months.'
The Volkswagen Virtus is available with a choice between two turbocharged petrol engines. The first option is a 1.0-litre TSI engine that generates 113bhp of maximum power and 178Nm of peak torque, and is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

The second option is a 1.5-litre TSI EVO unit that delivers 148bhp and 250Nm, and is mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The availability of a diverse engine lineup allows the Virtus to appeal to a wide range of drivers in the premium sedan market.
Priced between Rs 11.16 lakh and Rs 18.73 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volkswagen Virtus positions itself competitively in the mid-size sedan segment. It goes head-to-head with popular models such as the Hyundai Verna, the Honda City, and the Skoda Slavia.
