autoX Awards 2024: Mahindra XUV 3XO Performance, Quality and Value for Money Ranked

autoX Awards 2024: The Mahindra XUV 3XO is certainly a tricky car to evaluate and score. It’s clear that Mahindra has thrown everything but the kitchen sink to ensure that the XUV 3XO outshines the outgoing XUV300, even introducing a new naming convention by replacing the ‘double 0’ with an edgier ‘X’ and ‘O’. Yet, as much as I wanted to admire and fully embrace the 3XO, it left me wanting a bit more.

Let’s begin with what’s good. The most notable upgrade is in the cabin, where the material quality has noticeably improved, the build quality feels more solid, and it offers decent practicality. However, the all-white interior is likely to be a hassle to keep clean over time, as we noted in our review. A more divisive element among us jurors was the design. While distinctive, the familiar shape with its sharply truncated rear is starting to feel a bit dated. During the test on the track, the direct-injected turbo engine was certainly fast, and the stiffer chassis and suspension allowed for stability, even when it was pushed to the limits. Yet, a lack of steering feedback and drivetrain noise detracted from the overall feel, making the car seem more strained than it was.

Features-wise, it has made a much larger leap. The list now includes the likes of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, as well as a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 7-speaker Harman Kardon music system, AdrenoX connectivity suite, and wireless charging as well.

Mahindra has been on a roll recently with its new lot of cars and seems virtually unstoppable right now, given the high demand and incredible value that their new-generation products offer, setting a high standard. Unfortunately, the 3XO seems to fall short of that standard. It is still a decent package though. That said, compared to its siblings, the new Mahindra 3XO feels more of an evolution rather than a revolution.
