Despite the extra weight, the Carens Clavis EV keeps Kia’s familiar comfort. Its supple suspension absorbs well, though the added mass brings a mild bounce at high speeds.

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is one of those rare electric MPVs that unapologetically prioritises practicality, comfort, and family usability in a market dominated by crossovers and SUVs. Essentially an evolution of the standard Carens, the Clavis EV builds on Kia’s proven formula of design, features, and versatility, with zero tailpipe emissions, of course.
Visually, it’s familiar yet distinct. The clean surfaces and sleek proportions remain, but subtle EV cues – like the chrome-accented bumper insert, aero-style alloy wheels, and a closed-off grille – lend it a slightly futuristic flair. Some may find it a bit too stylised for a family MPV, but it’s cohesive and confident in execution.

The cabin is definitely one of its highlights. Kia’s excellent use of materials and textures – along with soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, and a clever floating console – makes the cabin feel premium. There’s plenty of room across all three rows, with the second and third rows folding flat to free up generous luggage capacity. The flat floor and bench-style layout make it genuinely comfortable for six or seven occupants. Add to that a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and connected-car features, and it feels properly loaded for family use.
Under the skin, the Carens Clavis EV shares its underpinnings with the Creta EV. It is powered by a front-mounted electric motor, which delivers 169bhp and 250Nm of torque with the larger 51.4kWh battery pack and a still-respectable 137bhp with smaller 42kWh battery pack.Performance is brisk, with 0 – 100 km/h achieved in under 10 seconds. Real-world range varies between 300 and 350km, depending on driving conditions. Despite the added weight, the EV retains that trademark comfort we expect from Kia products. The suspension is supple and absorbent, though the extra mass introduces a slight bounce at higher speeds.

Around the short loop, it clocked a lap time of 1:13.797, exhibiting decent composure for a seven-seater EV. The steering feels light but accurate, and the cabin refinement remains impressive even under load. For those seeking a practical, tech-rich, and efficient family EV, the Carens Clavis is definitely a good option. It may not excite enthusiasts, but as a smooth, comfortable, and sensible everyday MPV, it hits the brief perfectly.
