In an ideal world, the term ‘fast SUV’ should be a misnomer. The very idea of an SUV that’s fast, loud, and genuinely thrilling to drive defies common sense. Yet, as Range Rover has proved time and again, this is exactly what they excel at. Enter the Range Rover Sport SV – a steroid-pumped version of the popular SUV, built to satisfy every sense of the enthusiast.
The first thing that grabs your attention is its design and unique paint job – our test car was finished in a stunning matte maroon shade, which beautifully accentuated its design elements. Complementing that are the large air dams both at the front and rear and massive wheels that command presence. Inside, the SV Edition Two gets bespoke sports seats and other sporty elements that clearly set it apart from the standard Sport.

But it’s not just about the visual drama – the mechanical upgrades are where things get really interesting. Under the hood lies a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 626bhp and over 750Nm of torque. Pair that with a slick-shifting gearbox and an exhaust note that sounds like the devil gargling with gravel, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for an enthusiast’s dream.
The real magic happens when you hit the road and switch to SV Mode. Instantly, everything sharpens – throttle response, suspension, and steering feel – transforming the Sport SV into something truly diabolical. In this mode, it’s so fast that speed limits feel irrelevant. However, on the track, even with its hyper-reactive 6D suspension, you can feel the SUV’s weight, especially around fast, technical corners. Also, given its width and size, the glasshouse seems somewhat on the smaller side, which poses challenges in city traffic with all the two-wheelers and e-rickshaws on the road.

In our test, the Range Rover Sport SV performed exactly as expected — blisteringly quick around the track, with stellar scores in build quality, drivetrain refinement, and comfort. It also stood out as one of the most desirable cars in our lineup this year. But at its price, value-for-money isn’t its strongest suit, and that’s ultimately what pulls its overall score down.
