MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has confirmed his intention to leave Aprilia after the 2025 season. The announcement comes after a performance clause in his contract was activated, based on Aprilia’s position in the championship standings after six rounds. Despite missing races due to injury, Martin had shown flexibility about extending the clause deadline. His latest statement clearly signals his intent to move to another MotoGP team in 2026.
Exit clause rumours gained momentum following the French Grand Prix, where Spanish media reported Martin’s desire to trigger the clause. Aprilia quickly responded before the British Grand Prix, denying any early contract termination. Meanwhile, strong speculation has linked Jorge Martin with a move to Honda for the 2026 MotoGP season. Aprilia’s British GP victory with Marco Bezzecchi highlighted the RS-GP’s pace, with CEO Massimo Rivola seemingly directing the win as a message to Martin.

After weeks of speculation, Jorge Martin addressed the situation on Instagram. He reiterated his earlier willingness to adjust the clause deadline but now expects Aprilia to respect their existing contract.
Jorge Martin said: 'Hello everyone, I would like to share with all the fans, media and people who follow my career a clear explanation about my situation with Aprilia.
'At no time have I ever breached the contract. When we signed it, I agreed with Aprilia that, if certain circumstances were not met, I reserved the right to decide my future for 2026. This was an essential condition for me to accept the contract proposal they offered me at that time.
'When I made the decision to change manufacturers last year, one of my premises was to have the possibility to test the bike in real circumstances and to understand the team and its working methodology. In this way I could feel comfortable signing for two years instead of one, and so we included that condition.
'Faced with the situation of having to make a decision on a date that is established by contract, I have decided to exercise my right to release myself for the 2026 season. I have always done so respectfully, clearly and with the sole intention of taking control of my future as a professional athlete.'

Martin’s MotoGP career has included missed chances with Ducati, who bypassed him for factory team roles. After Marc Marquez was chosen over him, Martin left Pramac Racing, turning down a third-rider role with Ducati. He joined Aprilia for the 2025 MotoGP season. Now, all eyes are on a potential Jorge Martin-Honda partnership in 2026, as the Spanish rider targets more championship success.
