Jorge Martin's team manager, Albert Valera, has challenged Aprilia's claim that the MotoGP champion is under contract until 2026. In a recent MotoGP interview, Valera stated that Martin is 'free to sign' with anyone, opposing Aprilia’s claim. The drama has put a strain on the rider and the Italian factory. Martin had earlier said that he would be leaving Aprilia by 2025, frustrated with the performance of the bike. This followed after he had ridden just once this season in Qatar, when he crashed and got injured. Despite Aprilia's efforts at reassuring him of their dedication, Martin appears determined to leave.

According to MotoGP Website, Jorge Martin’s manager Albert Valera said: 'What we can say is Jorge Martin is free of contract for 2026. It’s pretty clear for us, he’s executed a clause he had in the contract and we’re just following the contract. He’s completely open, available, and we will see what happens in the future. He had a clause in the contract, he had a right to exercise that clause, and he did so.
'For the moment, we cannot talk about any third-party offers because it’s still maybe not the moment. We need to talk and understand other offers. The first thing that we need to do is to make sure Jorge wants to execute that clause; he did it, he announced it in his statement. We deeply believe that he is free. From the moment that we defend Jorge’s freedom, we’re able to take to other manufacturers. You ask me about Honda and that is an option for next year.'
Aprilia tried to strengthen its case at the British GP, where Marco Bezzecchi took victory on the RS-GP. The win was highlighted as proof of the bike’s competitiveness. However, Martin’s team remains unconvinced, suggesting he is still exploring other options for the 2026 season.

As the season goes on, Martin's priority is the comeback. This contract controversy has overshadowed Martin's 2025 season. With only a single race under his belt and his future up in the air, tensions are rising between Martin and Aprilia. Valera's candid comments hint at a possible courtroom showdown, while the fans wait to find out where Martin will ride next.
