Ducati has issued a voluntary recall for its&nbsp;XDiavel cruiser manufactured from 2016 to 2023&nbsp;due to a potential&nbsp;flaw&nbsp;with the bike's accessory. The recall affects close to 3,000 units of the XDiavel S and STD, and applies&nbsp;to the motorcycles sold in the US. According to the Italian manufacturer, the reason for the recall is the incorrectly installed pillion backrest which could result in the backrest to break, owing to which there could be a risk for the pillion rider to fall off the motorcycle and get injured.&nbsp;Ducati says that the installation is done at the dealership level, and as part of the recall, Ducati North America has directed its dealers to check the backrest installation for appropriate torque tightening on bikes.&nbsp;

Moreover, the dealers have also been asked to install a warning sticker with safety instructions on the backrest, and according to those&nbsp;instructions, the pillion rider is required to use the backrest by either holding on to the passenger grab strap&nbsp;or&nbsp;holding on to the rider. The backrest&nbsp;should not be the only support in order to use it, or else it could break.&nbsp;

<h2>Ducati XDiavel Recalled: Remedial Measures</h2>

As a remedy, owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by authorised dealers to bring in their motorcycles for inspection. If the backrest is found to be faulty, it will be replaced free of cost,&nbsp;and then installed as per the instructions given to the dealers. In a case where the said accessory is not damaged, it will be reinstalled using&nbsp;Ducati's torque specifications.

Though the recall does not apply to Indian XDiavels,&nbsp;customers can visit their nearest dealership to have the pillion backrest checked.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Ducati XDiavel&nbsp;is a laid-back cruiser from the Italian automaker. In the Indian market, it is on sale in three variants: Dark, Black Star, and S. The bookings for&nbsp;a special edition motorcycle are open, and its production will be limited to only 500 units. Ducati has introduced a special edition of the XDiavel in the international market. The Nera Edition of the hyper cruiser is essentially based on the standard XDiavel but with a serious cosmetic makeover.

Ducati has revealed the Nera Edition of the XDiavel,&nbsp;which is built in a partnership with Poltrona Frau –&nbsp;an Italian furniture company. The XDiavel Nera is essentially a special edition motorcycle, and its production will be limited to only 500 units.

The Nera Edition is based on the standard motorcycle, which means that the XDiavel Nera gets the same 1,262cc 90-degree V-twin engine. The power figures are the same as well – 158bhp at 9,500rpm and 127Nm at 5,000rpm. The suspension components and braking hardware have been carried over as well.

The changes essentially include a new livery, which consists of a black on black theme. The Brembo brake callipers are highlighted in red. The red accents continue on the engine cover as well. But the key highlight of the XDiavel Nera is the seat, which has been handcrafted and double stitched by Poltrona Frau.

Poltrona Frau has also worked on the interior&nbsp;trims of exotic cars such as Ferraris and Maseratis. The firm is renowned for high-end leather armchairs and other fashion accessories as well. The seat can be optioned with a backrest too, and the choice of colours include classic Poltrona Frau Siam Red, Steel Blue, Concrete Gray, India Brown, and Selva Green. The key fob of these 500 motorcycles will use the same leather.

Ducati has introduced a special edition of the XDiavel in the international market. The Nera Edition of the hyper cruiser is essentially based upon the standard XDiavel, but the cosmetics have seen a serious makeover.

The bike shares its mechanicals with the 2021 Ducati Diavel 1260, which was launched in India in June. An L-twin Ducati Testastretta DVT 1,262cc engine powers both variants of the XDiavel. The power rating is 158bhp at 9,500rpm and 127Nm at 5,000rpm.

The Ducati XDiavel Dark gets 50mm front upside-down forks. Similar 50mm forks on the Black Start variant gets a diamond-like coating. The 17-inch (front and rear) alloys on the Dark are die-cast wheels made of light-weight alloy. The Black Star variant gets machined wheels, which shave 2kgs off the kerb weight. The wheels of the black star variant are finished in gloss Black.

Both the XDiavel models get 320mm rotors at the front; however, Ducati has equipped the Black Star variant with Brembo M50 radial mono-bloc callipers. The Dark variant gets Brembo M4.32 radial mono-bloc callipers.

The electronic package includes IMU-based Ducati traction control and cornering ABS. Ducati also offers riding modes, cruise control, and Ducati power launch. The XDiavel Black Star gets the Ducati multimedia system as standard.

In terms of appearance, the Dark variant gets a more matte treatment all around. The Black Star variant is offered in a two-tone colour scheme of a Black and Grey combination, with Red highlights on the fuel tank. The Black Star gets a high-grip suede fabric seat.

The Ducati XDiavel rivals the Triumph Rocket 3 range, which is priced between Rs 19.35 lakh and Rs 20.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Ducati offers a 2-year unlimited-kilometre warranty on both variants of the XDiavel. Ducati India confirmed that the deliveries of the bike have already commenced.

Ducati India on its social network handles has confirmed that the 2021 XDiavel will be launched on August 12, 2021. From the teaser images and subtle keyword hints such as ‘a star is born’ and ‘Dark side’, we reckon that the brand will introduce the 2021 XDiavel in two variants – Black Star and Dark. In the company’s portfolio, the XDiavel will be positioned above <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/bs6-ducati-diavel-1260-and-diavel-1260-s-launched-109552/">the standard Diavel 1260 that was launched in India back in June</a>.

The Black Star variant of the Ducati XDiavel gets a gloss black paint finish with a dual-tone colour combination. Overall the Black Star gets a black and grey colour scheme with red accents on the fuel tank.&nbsp;

The Dark variant gets a matte paint job with black treatment on the chassis as well. Other body panels and components sport the matte black paint finish as well.

The XDiavel is largely based on the standard Diavel 1260 but the key difference are the styling highlights and rider seat height. The XDiavel offers a seat height of 755mm that is 25mm lower than the standard Diavel 1260.

The Ducati XDiavel gets the 1,262cc Testastretta DVT V-Twin motor, the same as the standard Diavel 1260. The power is rated at 158bhp and 127Nm that is forwarded via a six-speed gearbox. The electronics include IMU-based Cornering ABS, Traction Control, Wheelie Control, Launch Control, Cruise Control, Riding Modes, and Power Modes.

Ducati India has dropped a new teaser for its upcoming XDiavel. The Italian motorcycle maker recently launched the Ducati Diavel 1260 and the ‘X’ in its denotes a higher variant in the hierarchy.

The Ducati XDiavel is available in three variants – S, Black Star and the Dark – in the international market. Going by the teaser image, ‘a star is born’, it is most likely the XDiavel Black Star that will make its India debut this month.

The overall design of the XDiavel will continue to be the same as the Diavel 1260, but the styling elements and details differ from the standard model. The XDiavel Black Star features a dual-tone paint scheme with red accents. The seat too gets highlighted stitching to add some exclusivity. Speaking of the seat, the XDiavel has a lower seat height of 755mm – 25mm lower – than the standard Diavel 1260. The engine frame gets a subtle gloss black paint finish as well.&nbsp;

The engine is the same 1,262cc Testastretta DVT V-Twin motor that will be mated to a six-speed transmission. Internationally, the motorcycle produces 158bhp and 127Nm of torque. The Ducati Diavel 1260 was launched at Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Diavel 1260 S demands Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The XDiavel is likely to get a price tag close to the Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

Ducati will be showcasing the updated 2018 XDiavel at the European Custom and Cruiser show in Faaker See, Austria. Although Ducati launched the XDiavel with a dark devilish theme from the get-go, the Italian motorcycle maker has now decided to offer a light shade with the motorcycle. And it kind of works, if you think about it. The light shade helps&nbsp;highlight&nbsp;the muscles and beautifully crafted lines of the cruiser in a more effective manner.

On the mechanical front, there are no revisions to speak of. This would mean the XDiavel will continue with the same Testastretta DVT 1,262cc L-Twin engine that churns out 154bhp of maximum power and 129Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a five-speeder. Although looks are subjective, one can’t just deny the fact that the Ducati XDiavel is a gorgeous looking motorcycle. Because of its gob-smacking looks, the XDiavel has already won some coveted design awards. In 2016, the Ducati XDiavel won the “Best of the Best” Red Dot Award in Product Design in Europe. And now the latest feather in its cap is the “Good Design Award 2016” that it just received from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

Established in 1950, the Good Design Award is the world’s oldest prize that’s awarded to the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial products and graphic designs produced around the world. The Ducati XDiavel won it in the transportation category along with 29 more products. Overall there are 27 categories.

As for the XDiavel, it was launched in 2016 and is based on the standard Diavel. However, compared to the regular Diavel, the XDiavel is a more laid-back power cruiser and comes with completely different chassis and powertrain. The XDiavel comes powered by a Testastretta DVT 1,262cc L-Twin that develops 154bhp and 129Nm of peak torque. The new engine in the XDiavel develops its peak torque at just 5,000rpm mark while power is transmitted via a belt to the rear wheel – a first for <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/ducati/">Ducati</a>. The motorcycle also gets a wide handlebar and feet-forward riding position.

The XDiavel is offered in two trims – Standard and S. While both are identical on the mechanical front, the XDiavel S gets a few more features such as LED DRLs and headlamps, machined finish on the rear wheel, swing-arm, ORVMs, etc. In fact, it’s the XDiavel S that has bagged the design award.

The XDiavel is already on sale in India. The standard version is priced at Rs 15.87 lakh while the XDiavel S carries a price tag of Rs 18.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
