For nearly two years, I have been a proud owner of a Ninja 650. The bike's 649cc engine is smooth and torquey, providing great rideability on roads and in cities. On lengthy trips, I typically get between 22 and 24 km/l, and in Chennai traffic, I typically get between 18 and 19 km/l. For a sportbike, the bike's comfort level is great; it's less aggressive and more laid back, which is perfect for my longer touring rides. Each service costs about ₹7,000 to ₹8,000, and I paid ₹7.2 lakh on-road to own it. Even at high speeds, the chassis feels stable and the brakes are firm. The Ninja 650 is an excellent middleweight choice for anyone seeking a balance between performance, comfort, and dependability.

For roughly eight months, I have been riding my Ninja 650. The stock windscreen is something I dislike, even though I love the engine's refinement, the power delivery's smoothness, and the technological features (TFT display, Bluetooth). Taller riders like me find it too low. When traveling on highways, wind buffeting becomes apparent at speeds higher than 120 km/h. In order to improve touring comfort, I intend to install a taller aftermarket screen. Other than that, the bike gets me 22–23 km/l on highways, has a top speed of about 210 km/h, and costs about ₹8,000 per service. In Mumbai, I paid ₹7.3 lakh on the road. The Ninja 650 would be an even better sport-touring vehicle if Kawasaki enhanced the wind protection.

My Kawasaki Ninja 650 Lime Green, which I purchased last year, has been an incredible ride! With its smooth power output, the 649cc parallel-twin engine is ideal for both city and highway driving. On highways, I get about 22–24 km/l, and in Bangalore traffic, I get about 18–20 km/l. Shifting is light and simple thanks to the assist and slipper clutch. I've reached a top speed of about 210 km/h. On-road in Bangalore, I paid about ₹7.2 lakh. It has a high-end, contemporary look thanks to the new TFT display, Bluetooth, and LED headlights. I pay between ₹7,000 and ₹8,000 for each service. It handles flawlessly, and I mostly use it for weekend rides. For riders who want to venture into the world of big bikes without going overboard, it's a fantastic upgrade.

India currently gets the W175, but the brand has now revealed the W230 for the UK market, scheduled for a 2026 launch, though there’s still no official word on whether it will arrive here. </p><p>Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1965 Kawasaki 650 W-1, the W230 maintains the tradition of a lightweight build, low seat height, and approachable performance, all designed to bring classic ’60s styling to a broader audience. With its minimalist frame, circular lighting, and clean, old-school silhouette, the bike appeals to both new riders and seasoned enthusiasts who crave an authentic retro riding experience.</p><h2><strong>Kawasaki W230: Engine and Hardware</strong></h2><p>The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/kawasaki/w230/">W230</a> is powered by a 233cc single-cylinder engine that delivers 17.3bhp at 7,000rpm and 18.6Nm of torque at 5,800rpm. It sports a 37mm telescopic fork setup at the front, and twin shocks at the rear with adjustable preload to fine-tune comfort and stability. Braking hardware includes a 265mm&nbsp;front disc with a dual-piston calliper, supported by a 220mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper. The bike has a kerb weight of just 133 kg,&nbsp;which should make the motorcycle exceptionally manageable in both urban traffic and tight maneuvering situations. The ground clearance stands at 150mm, while the fuel tank capacity is 12 litres.</p><h2><strong>Kawasaki W230: Will it Come to India?</strong></h2><p>As of now, Kawasaki hasn’t confirmed whether the W230 will come to India, but the growing popularity of affordable retro motorcycles here certainly leaves the door open. Ever since it first hit the market last year, the Kawasaki KLX230 has had quite the roller-coaster of a journey – it first made headlines for its extraordinary price tag, and then again for the equally extraordinary drop in it. But at ₹1.84 lakh (ex-showroom), the KLX230 now seems to be in a sweet spot – a steal for anyone dreaming of a light &amp; capable off-road machine with that iconic Lime Green badge. Powering this featherweight machine is a 233cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, which produces 18.37bhp at 8,000rpm and 19Nm at 6,400rpm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. On paper, these numbers might not sound thrilling, but once you twist the throttle, the KLX230’s lively character immediately becomes apparent. It’s one of those bikes that thrives on momentum – it’s light, responsive, and eager to play.</p>

<p>We’d already tested the KLX230 in its natural habitat – off-road – where it was, predictably, impressive. But curiosity got the better of us, so we brought it to our annual track day at the Buddh International Circuit. <p>On the track, the KLX surprised everyone with its punchy low-end torque and unexpectedly quick cornering pace. The generous ground clearance and skinny tyres meant that knee-down antics were best avoided, but the bike’s agility and willingness to lean were undeniable. My colleague Karan, meanwhile, spent more time riding it on one wheel rather than two until we literally had to drag him off the bike to save the fork seals.</p>

<p>With 240mm of suspension travel at the front and 250mm at the rear, the KLX devours rough terrain and lands jumps like a champ. Its slender frame, tall 880mm seat height, and comfortable ergonomics give it the authentic dirt-bike feel while remaining completely road-legal.
