The Moto Guzzi V85 TT is a touring adventure bike offering
 comfort and fun on long rides. It has a cruise control system, navigation, LED
 lighting, three ride modes, and dual-channel ABS. The V85 TT goes against the Triumph
 Tiger 850 and the BMW F850 GS in the touring motorcycle segment.

Piaggio-owned Italian bikemaker, Moto Guzzi, has revealed the road-focused&nbsp;adventure bike in the international market, called the Stelvio. The Moto Guzzi Stelvio&nbsp;became a mainstay in the Italian manufacturer's lineup ever since its introduction but had to face a brief hiatus due to its dwindling sales. While performance figures won't be revealed until the EICMA trade show in Milan, we do know that the&nbsp;Stelvio is built on&nbsp;the same platform that also underpins the V100 Mandello sport-tourer. Consequently, a 1,042cc,&nbsp;90-degree&nbsp;longitudinal&nbsp;V-twin, liquid-cooled engine will power the Stelvio bike. For reference, this motor on the Mandello produces 113bhp at 8,700rpm and 105Nm of peak torque at 6,750rpm. Importantly, the engine has been calibrated to meet Euro5+ emission regulations and is nourished via a 21-litre fuel tank, good enough for a claimed range of 402km.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>Moto Guzzi Stelvio: Hardware</h2>

The cycle parts used are quite similar for both the V100 Mandello and the Stelvio, which is expected to feature a tubular steel trellis&nbsp;frame. The suspension setup consists&nbsp;of 46mm upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, both fully adjustable. However, the main difference comes in the&nbsp;form of the tyres these bikes come wrapped in. The Stelvio rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels shod with&nbsp;tubeless dual-purpose tyres, whereas the V100 Mandello comes with a 17/17-inch wheel setup.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Besides a 5.0-inch TFT display and&nbsp;switchgear, the Stelvio gets traction control, cornering ABS, cruise control, and 5 customisable riding modes.&nbsp;Interestingly, the&nbsp;Moto Guzzi Stelvio is also offered with the optional&nbsp;Piaggio Fast Forward Rider Assistance Solution, which uses 4D Imaging Radar technology enabling enhanced safety features such as collision detection, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring. Moreover, the bike is also kitted out with a range of accessories like a larger 52-litre top case, panniers, handy side bags, and heated seats.

Moto Guzzi has not yet disclosed the pricing information&nbsp;for the new Stelvio model. The company&nbsp;is, however, expected to reveal this and much more&nbsp;at the upcoming EICMA 2023, where the Stelvio and other Guzzis will be making a comeback. The trade show is scheduled to take place from November 7 to November 12, 2023. And for those expecting the Stelvio to make its entry in India, it is highly unlikely that the bike will come here.

A pricey Italian with a lot of attitude. No, not a supermodel, but the Guzzi Roamer.

The retro and classic motorcycle scene continues to heat up across the world, and because of that it seems that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/moto-guzzi/">Moto Guzzi</a> is making a bit of a resurgence. The oldest European bike manufacturer is celebrating its 95th anniversary this year, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Even though we haven’t had much experience riding many of their bikes, the brand’s legendary status means that its allure is impossible to ignore.

Under Piaggio ownership, the Italian bike maker was officially brought into the Indian market last year, and it’s still a relatively unknown brand here. But, Moto Guzzi has been a niche market player for decades now with global sales figures averaging about 6,000 units a year, so it’s not a shocker that mass market consumers in India haven’t heard of the brand.

I first got a taste of Moto Guzzi when I rode the Audace last year – a high priced exotic Italian cruiser. It certainly seemed like a fine motorcycle, but, in all honesty, it didn’t really stand out or impress me in any particular manner. More recently though, I got my hands on the V9 Roamer, which is a small Italian custom motorcycle that also comes in another avatar – the V9 Bobber.

Like any Italian motorcycle, the design of the V9 Roamer really stands out. The Roamer has its own unique styling, and it certainly grabs eyeballs. The Roamer looks great from every angle, and once again it’s the attention to detail that sets it apart from every other bike out there – including those from within its own stable. The overall design of the V9 came from the Centro Stile Piaggio Group, with inputs from the Piaggio Advanced Design Centre – located in Pasadena, California. This is perhaps why it looks more like an American retro.

The V9 Roamer is all metal, including the fenders and the side-covers. It uses a steel twin-tube cradle frame with right-side up forks. Besides the electric switches, there isn’t any plastic on the bike. The switchgear looks like something you would find on those hoverbikes from Star Wars – very futuristic stuff and something you won’t find on any other production bike. The nice paint scheme, the classic emblems, and the embroidered seat make quite an impact on the overall design, and the standard Guzzi engine layout and placement also goes very well.

The Roamer is also a compact motorcycle and that makes it easy to ride. Despite its flat retro seat, it’s very comfortable even for long rides. The wide handlebars and the specially crafted foot pegs are well positioned and offer good space for the rider.

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/moto-guzzi/v9-roamer/">V9 Roamer</a> gets a new power unit in the form of its 90° transverse V-twin air and oil cooled engine, which is standard on all Guzzis. This one is an 853cc unit capable of 55bhp and 62Nm of torque. It’s certainly not the most spirited engine, but it’s got a nice sound to it and offers decent riding dynamics. Torque is available from as low as 1,500rpm, but the initial acceleration isn’t thrilling and the mid-range isn’t exciting, either. It may have decent responsiveness, but it’s in no way a fast motorcycle. You certainly get to experience a classic and retro soul in a manner that many purists would enjoy, but power hungry riders will complain about the laziness of the engine – especially on inclines, as I found out for myself.

Even though it’s low on peak power, it’s still a fairly usable engine because it’s got a wide torque spread – and refinement levels are good with little vibrations felt. Because of its low-end power, it’s also quite manageable and friendly to ride. In fact, with a kerb weight of just 199 kilograms, the Roamer is very friendly and almost anybody will be confident on it. The ride quality is nice and the bike handles very well too, but the Kayaba suspension set-up doesn’t particularly impress as it only handles the lightest of bumps. It does feel a bit too stiff at times, and the 40mm fork is not adjustable while the rear shocks are preload adjustable only. But it does get ABS and a two-level traction control system for added safety.

The best way to ride and enjoy the Roamer is in a relaxed style. You certainly can’t attack corners with the intent of leaning in and pulling out at light speed – it’s not particularly sporty at all. The Roamer has a certain attitude in its character, and it won’t allow you to take full advantage of it. No matter how hard you try to push, the bike always comes across as easy-going and uninterested in your demands. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t. Having said that, it will trod on down the road and look bloody good doing it. It’s an uber-cool machine that will attract admiring glances and stares – very much like a super model strutting down the catwalk.

The only problem is that if you do want to stand out from the crowd and ride on an exotic retro Italian beauty, it’s going to cost you. Just like super models, Guzzis don’t come cheap. If you’re looking to get your hands on one you need to part with a lot of cash. But, hey, if I had the cash, I would definitely want to take Monica Bellucci out on a couple of dates – if she gave me the chance that is.

Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer Review: First Ride

Under the ownership of Piaggio, the Italian automaker made it to the world's biggest two-wheeler market last year. For 2017, Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer is their latest entrant into the retro and classic motorcycle scenario. Learn more in our full review.

After showcasing the MGX-21 and the V9 Bobber and Roamer at the 2016 Auto Expo, Moto Guzzi has finally launched them in the Indian market. The V9 in both its avatars, at a starting price of Rs 13.60 lakhs, is the most affordable offering from Moto Guzzi. The MGX-21 flagship can only be purchased on order and carries a sticker price of Rs 27.78 lakhs. All prices ex-showroom Pune. Both these motorcycles have been brought over to Indian shores via the CBU route.

The V9 Roamer is a uniquely designed cruiser that sports a lot of chrome parts. The Bobber on the other hand, sports an identical silhouette but wears an all back theme. At the heart of things though, both these motorcycles sport the same 850cc V-twin unit that makes 55bhp of peak power and 61Nm of max torque. In terms of features the Moto Guzzi V9 comes with two-channel ABS, Moto Guzzi Traction Control (MGTC), immobiliser, USB port, semi-digital instrumentation and a large list of accessories including the Moto Guzzi multimedia platform (MG-MP).

First showcased at 2014 EICMA, the MGX-21 thanks to its massive proportions intimidating design has earned the epithet ‘Flying Fortress’. This flagship Moto Guzzi comes with a 1,380cc V-twin powerplant that puts out about 96bhp and 121Nm of torque. All of this power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed transmission. In terms of equipment, the MGX-21 comes with a ABS, reaction control, cruise control, Bluetooth, USB and more. The MGX-21 comes washed in black with lots of carbon fibre bits on the mug guards, saddle bags, tan panels and more.

My favourite country in the world is Italy. There’s just something about the Italian way of life that I love. They enjoy their food, they’re relaxed, and they express themselves very passionately – and, of course, the women are beautiful. It’s the little things in life that the Italians pay close attention to, and their ‘no nonsense’ approach to everything just fascinates me. The Moto Guzzi Audace, which I had with me for the weekend in Pune, clearly represents this brilliant Italian attitude. I must admit, though, that I’ve never really been a fan of Moto Guzzi. But now I realise that this was only because I was never given a chance to get up close and personal with these beautiful motorbikes.

American cruisers have dominated the global market, and it’s quite obvious that not many people in India are even aware that the Italians are also into big burly cruisers. Well, that’s all about to change now. Moto Guzzi is officially in India, and they have a nice selection of big cruisers for the Indian customer. The Audace is essentially a stripped down version of the Moto Guzzi California. After doing a bit of research I found out that the 1,400cc engine from the California is a brand new unit developed by the historic marque from Mandello del Lario, and has already gained quite a legendary reputation amongst auto journalists around the globe. The same engine is also found in the Audace, and with 96bhp and 121Nm of torque, its closest competitors in India are the new Triumph Thruxton and Thunderbird, and the Harley Davidson Fat boy and Night Rod Special. I’ve ridden all of these bikes before, and they’re highly impressive in their own right.

So, now it was time for me to take my first ride on a Moto Guzzi. But, before that, let me just talk about the design of the Audace. Just as you would expect, the Italians excel in design, and the Audace is definitely quite a looker! It’s different from the bulky American and British cruisers, and a lot more contemporary. And just like the Italian way of life, it’s the attention to detail that really sets this bike apart. The Audace uses the slogan ‘Born Bad,’ and it has a dark theme throughout the bike. There’s minimal use of chrome, and there’s no excess plastic. It’s mostly matte black metal, with a little use of carbon fibre. Then there’s the alcantara saddle, the underside fairing, the megaphone exhaust and the cast alloy wheels. But, like all the other Guzzis, the most prominent design feature is the massive, transverse V-twin – with its cylinder heads sticking out the sides of the bike. Extra muscle comes in the form of the wide 45mm front forks and that extra large rear tyre. Again, it’s not a flashy or extravagant design. It’s simple and elegant, but audacious.

When you start up the engine, you can feel it vibrate side-to-side quite heavily, and the rumbling sound lets you know that you’re on a beast. But once you click the 6-speed transmission into first gear and twist the throttle, the vibrations seem to magically disappear. I was quite taken aback by this, because when I started the bike I was expecting an old-school mechanical riding feel – but it turned out that the engine was smooth like butter. I asked the Moto Guzzi representative about this after the ride, and I found out that the bike was designed to have a harsh start on the engine as to give the rider an experience of starting a classic big block engine. Once I was on the highway though, the Audace showed that it was a true modern Italian. The engine is very refined, and it’s got superb throttle response. And it really does hurl you forward with the grit of a true sprinter.

But this is a technology packed cruiser as well, and thanks to the ride-by-wire throttle, multi-map management and traction control, the bike keeps a tight leash on the massive torque available from the 90° V-Twin. There are different riding modes that you can set from the digital and analogue single dial instrument cluster. It’s a great mix of old and new, and together with its muscle cruiser appeal, it’s a very well-engineered mastery of machinery – as you would expect from the Italians.

The riding position is also very nice and the long drag-handlebar positioned up high means there’s no weight on your wrists. Your legs are also properly and comfortably positioned up front for a true cruiser riding stance, so you can enjoy long distance touring. In the city, though, the bike is heavy – but, because it is so well balanced and thanks to the engine placement, it’s not too difficult to handle. On sweeping turns, on the highway and on tighter hill roads, it also handles brilliantly.

Overall, the Audace is a phenomenal motorcycle – and it’s certainly won me over. But here’s my problem with the bike. The bike is certainly exotic and unique, but I can’t find a reason to justify its high price tag of `21 lakhs. I could buy the Triumph Rocket III for the same price, which is my favourite cruiser and one that’s way more powerful. I could even save a small fortune, and go for the Triumph Thunderbird – which is just as beautiful, and just as mean and bold. The Harleys may not be as refined, but they do have the same muscle power and they don’t look bad either. And the fact of the matter is that no matter what big cruiser you ride in India, wherever you go everyone always shouts out – “Oh dekho… Harley Davidson!” The only reason that I can see anyone going for the Guzzi is the novelty value of owning an Italian cruiser. And, quite frankly, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. You just need to be as audacious as the Italian bike maker. And, if you can afford it, then why not?

Moto Guzzi Audace Review: First Ride

It's no secret that the American cruisers have dominated the two-wheeler space. With the Moto Guzzi Audace, the Italian bike maker officially makes its way to the Indian market. So is it worth the penny? Read out here.

What are Aprilia’s plans for north&nbsp;India as the company is currently focused in the west and south?

At the moment, unfortunately, Delhi doesn’t have an Aprilia dealer. There are only Vespa dealers here. You may know that we have a new concept for our showrooms called Motoplex. We have currently four. One in&nbsp;Pune is run by Piaggo itself, while the other three in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi are run by our dealers. These are our flagship stores where all our international brands are available under one roof. Though, our mono brand Vespa dealers will also sell the new Aprilia scooter – SR 150. That’s why most of the Vespa showrooms are redesigning the fascia and are adding the brand Aprilia. The SR 150 will help us increase our network, especially in the north, where we are relatively weak. I think it will do very well in the north. Going by its personality, I see the SR 150 more of a Punjabi than a Tamilian. But on a serious note, we have plans of expanding our dealership and we want to add 20 more this year.

With the scooter market on the rise in India, how do you think the market will respond to the SR 150? 
Normally scooters are used for commuting, but we have created a non-boring looking scooter. It’s our version of a hybrid as it looks like a motorcycle from the rear and a scooter&nbsp;from the front.&nbsp;But its design is&nbsp;very sleek unlike other scooters in India, which are traditionally designed and are not that good looking. Many even call the SR 150 a crossover. Being an Aprilia, it will be powerful, but without compromising on the practical aspect. It gets a storage compartment underneath the seat and the floor is flat, which provides enough space to keep a bag. Therefore, it is more convenient than a motorcycle and as its an automatic, you don’t have to keep changing gears, and still provides&nbsp;the thrill of&nbsp;a&nbsp;small bike. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/aprilia-sr-150-review-first-ride/">Aprilia SR 150</a> actually creates a new segment for those who are bored of&nbsp; typical scooters and also for families, who find motorcycles impractical.

Changing the topic to motorcycles. At the moment in India, there are many major players present in the 300cc segment. Could that entice Aprilia to crash the party? 
It is an interesting segment. Currently we are evaluating whether it makes sense for us to be a part of this segment. There could be a possibility, but at the moment we don’t have an engine in that class. It is something we can see for the future.

Piaggio Group showcases a range of models from Aprilia, Vespa, Moto Guzzi and of course Piaggio brands

The Piaggio Group put up a massive display at the 2016 Auto Expo with a display of motorcycles and scooters from its Aprilia, Vespa, Moto Guzzi and of course Piaggio brands. Taking centre stage was the unveiling of the Aprilia SR150 scooter which will be its latest offering for the Indian market. The Aprilia SR150 may very well be styled like a scooter, but its origins from an off-road motorcycle are clearly visible.

Other showcases from Aprilia at the Auto Expo include 2016 avatar of the RSV4 superbike that dominated the FIM Superstock Cup in 2015. For 2016, the motorcycle gets a different Superpole graphic, an improved rear suspension and standard equipment will now include the V4-MP multimedia platform. Piaggio showcased a range of high wheel scooters in the form of the Medley and Liberty. The Piaggio Fly scooter, zero emissions Wi-Bike and MP3 three wheeled scooter was also showcased.

The Vespa stand had the 946 Armani edition scooter that was jointly created with Giorgio Armani to mark the Armani’s 40th anniversary and 130th birthday of the Piaggio Group. Alongside were the Vespa 70, GTS 300 and Vespa 150cc range.

Aprilia SR 150 showcased at 2016 Auto Expo

Piaggio Group showcases a range of models from Aprilia, Vespa, Moto Guzzi and of course Piaggio brands. The Piaggio Group put up a massive display at the 2016 Auto Expo with a display of motorcycles and scooters from its Aprilia, Vespa, Moto Guzzi and of course Piaggio brands.
