Triumph Street Triple R Highlights
For the first time ever, Triumph has introduced the R derivative of its middleweight roadster in India. It is based on the same underpinnings as the top-spec Street Triple RS, but Triumph has cut some corners to make it just a bit more affordable than its abovesaid sibling.
While the R version looks near identical to the RS one, it does come with lesser goodies and a slightly detuned powertrain. Moreover, with a price difference of almost 2.5 lakh (as of mid-2020), the Street Triple R does seem like a better deal.
Exterior Details
As said above, the Street Triple R looks more or less identical to its RS derivative. Like the RS, it, too, comes with the signature twin headlamps, packed with LEDs. The only visual difference with both the versions is the omission of the belly pan for the more affordable R variant.
Regardless, the Street Triple R still wears the aggressive and intimidating look, which makes it just as special as its sibling. Moreover, it, too, features a sleek tail section and wide rubber, both front and back.
Engine & Transmission
Powering the Street Triple R is the same 765cc inline three-cylinder engine from the RS version. In the R version, however, power is slightly lower at 116bhp, while the torque output remains the same at 79Nm. Here too, the engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Lastly, the Street Triple R mileage is expected to be around 23km/l.
Handling
In the handling department, the Street Triple R features Showa 41mm upside-down forks at the front and a monoshock at the back. Furthermore, it is built around an aluminium beam twin spar chassis, and it gets a 120/70 ZR17 and a 180/55 ZR17 tyre at the front and rear, respectively. The stopping power comes from dual 310mm discs at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear.
Features
In comparison to the RS version, the Triumph Street Triple R new model does miss out on a few goodies. For instance, it packs an LCD with an analogue tachometer, as opposed to the full-colour TFT display of the RS version. As for the electronics, it comes with three riding modes, quick-shifter, slip & assist clutch, standard traction control, and ABS safety systems. In terms of electricals, the headlamps and taillamp are powered with LEDs.
Price & Variants
The Triumph Street Triple R is available in a single variant. The Triumph Street Triple R price (as of mid-2020) is ₹8.84 lakh for the Standard variant (ex-showroom, Delhi). For the variant wise Triumph Street Triple R on-road prices, visit our prices section.
