The quality of switchgear is good, and the quirky placement of controls on either side of the instrument cluster is quite clever – something that I personally like. These buttons allow you to navigate through the menu and reset certain data. The single pod LCD instrument cluster keeps things refreshingly simple and effective – it’s easy to read, neatly laid out, and free of unnecessary visual noise. That said, the placement of the horn switch is frustrating. It sits between the indicator and the light switch, forcing you to glance down to locate it – something that you shouldn’t have to do in traffic.







In terms of proportion, the bike looks a bit compact, but that works to its advantage. It feels unintimidating and approachable, especially for newer riders. Taller riders – those over six feet – may find it a bit snug, but the footpeg position is not as cramped as that of the MT-15. Now, while I usually avoid discussing accessories, here I must. Yamaha offers a range of add-ons that can transform the XSR into either a scrambler or a cafe racer. For those who like their bikes with a little visual flair, the XSR clearly ticks the right boxes.

<h2>Yamaha XSR 155 Engine Performance &amp; Refinement: Familiar, Yet Flawed</h2>

Now, coming to the 155cc liquid-cooled engine – on paper, it produces the same output as the R15, but out on the road, the bike does not feel as impressive. Yes, it’s decently fast, and even with a pillion passenger on board, you can get through the city without a hiccup. However, it lacks top-end performance, something you notice more clearly on the highway or when chasing speed.

Push the bike harder, and the shortcomings in terms of refinement become quite evident. Once you cross 4,500rpm, vibrations start creeping in through the handlebars and footpegs. The mirrors, too, begin to buzz to the point where they are barely usable. Considering how smooth and engaging the same engine feels in the other bikes, its performance here is quite disappointing.







The exhaust note also fails to match the bike’s visual promise. It lacks the bass and character you expect from a modern-retro motorcycle. Fuel efficiency, however, is a strong point. This is one trait that has carried over from the R15 and the MT-15, with real-world figures hovering between 50 and 55km/l in city traffic. This makes the XSR an easy and economical daily companion.





<h2>Yamaha XSR 155 Ride Comfort, Ergonomics &amp; Everyday Usability</h2>

At just 137kg, the bike feels featherlight, making it a breeze in city traffic, easy to manoeuvre at parking speeds, and generally stress-free to live with. The mirrors are large, well-positioned, and actually useful most of the times – a rarity in this segment. However, comfort is a sore point. The tuck-and-roll seat looks the part but feels rock hard. A few kilometres on the saddle, and you’ll find yourself shifting around just to stay comfortable.

While the flat seat doesn’t allow the pillion passenger to tower over the rider, it’s not very spacious. The rear suspension feels overly stiff, especially for lighter riders, and the front brake lacks bite despite the hardware on offer.

Pricing is where things get complicated. Compared to the R15 and MT-15, the XSR 155 seems to offer good value. But line it up against rivals like the Royal Enfield Hunter or TVS Ronin, and the narrative shifts drastically. Those bikes offer larger engines, better exhaust notes, and comparable performance for similar money.

That said, Yamaha’s fit and finish and overall quality do justify part of the premium. Even so, a slightly more aggressive price tag could have made the XSR far more compelling. It is, in fact, very close to being the ideal modern-retro 155. It looks fantastic, offers excellent fuel economy, and is genuinely easy to live with. But vibrations, comfort issues, and a few dynamic limitations hold it back. This move brings the entry point of the R15 series down to Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom), making the bike more accessible for riders planning to step into the performance commuter space. Yamaha stormed the Indian market in 2008 when it launched the Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0. This 150cc naked bike was exactly what the segment lacked – a bike with oodles of attitude and without any pretentious fairings. However, apart from some cosmetic changes and additional graphics, the Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;has remained untouched for almost 6 years. So, to change that, Yamaha has finally launched the new Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;– and the biggest change to the bike is the new 149cc fuel-injected engine.

Thankfully, Yamaha hasn’t tinkered with the Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;rugged looks, and it remains one of the best looking bikes on Indian roads. However, the Japanese bike maker has cleverly tweaked its body panels, giving the Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;a more edgy look without losing its inherent style.

Press the self-start button of the Yamaha FZ S Version 2.0&nbsp;and a synthetic purr welcomes you. Sit on the bike, and instantly you feel the difference – the new split seat is more comfortable, and provides additional lower back support. This will definitely be a big boon for long distance rides. The Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0, now, also gets a broader and easier instrument cluster to read. The new all-digital display does away with the colourful background of the older bike that, personally, I was never a big fan of as it looked like something that was specced by an 8-year-old boy.

Twist the throttle, and the new 149cc fuel-injected engine – no that’s not a typo, the engine size has been reduced from the earlier 153cc – provides seamless and linear acceleration that, honestly, will be acceptable to most but will leave enthusiasts wanting more. Though the new Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;is one bhp down from the older bike – it now pumps out 13bhp – but it is 3kgs lighter. But all throughout our Yamaha FZ S Version 2.0, we felt that it’s performance feels identical to the older Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0. And though we can get picky about performance, honestly, it is adequate to get from point A to point B.

Even though Yamaha insists that the new Blue Core engine is focused on both performance and better fuel economy, we’ve got a sneaking feeling that the scales are tipped more towards the latter. The glaring Eco Indicator in the instrument cluster supports this theory. Some may say this is sacrilege – that Yamaha is resorting to commuter-bike gimmickry – but then better fuel efficiency is something Yamaha has to achieve in order to maintain their sales figures. So keep your revs within 5,500rpm, and the Eco indicator light will reassure you that the Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;is judiciously sipping fuel. As far as refinement is concerned, the engine is a smooth operator – and the refined powerplant means that you won’t feel any annoying vibrations, even if you twist the throttle to take revs all the way to 8,000rpm. This is a big plus for the Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0, as most of its competitors don’t offer this level of refinement.

The Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;has always been one of the best handlers in its segment, and now with a lighter chassis it’s a breeze to attack corners. The new MRF tyres provide a lot of grip, and give you the confidence to take on turns without breaking a sweat. The ride quality is also quite plush. To test this, I purposely rode over some ditches and bumps – and the suspension easily cushioned it all.

The Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;is a far more complete bike than its predecessor. It’s more frugal, it handles like a charm, provides fantastic ride quality, and the simple naked look gives it a macho feel. That being said, you do expect more from Yamaha on the performance front – power delivery is very linear, but it’s lacking punch. Priced between Rs. 76,250 -&nbsp;Rs. 78,250, the new Yamaha Fz S Version 2.0&nbsp;is a good buy and an ego booster in the way it looks. But, after having been in the market for so many years, this should really have been the ‘FZ Version 3.0’ with even more improvements. If Yamaha really wants to become one of the leading players in the Indian market, they need to move a little bit faster.
