BMW M2 Highlights
The BMW M2 has been on sale in the international markets for quite some time now. While we’ve had the M3/M4 in the Indian market over these years, the manufactured never introduced the M Division’s smallest weapon here.
The BMW M2, then, was replaced by the brawnier M2 competition in the international markets, which also made its way to the Indian market. While the M3 and M4 are sporty saloons that can house the full family, the M2 competition is, essentially, a compact 2-door coupe. As a result, the BMW M2 price also means it’s the entry-level ticket to owning an ‘M’ performance car in the Indian market.
The BMW M2 new model is unmistakably a BMW. Since it’s a car that comes straight out of the M division, it has a suitably aggressive and intimidating look to it. As is a norm with ‘M’ performance car, the kidney nostrils here are painted black, and so are the other highlights of the car. What makes it more appealing is that there’s no chrome whatsoever.
The headlamps and taillamps look menacing and light up very well. In profile, the short 2.7-metre wheelbase is nicely spread across a pair of 19-inch alloy wheels. The fenders are beefy enough to happily accommodate the wide rubber. All in all, it looks sharp and lean as an athlete, which it should be.
The BMW M2 variants, namely, are Competition. Available in just a single variant, the M2 competition is loaded to the gills. All the standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlamps, LED taillamps, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning with dual-zone control, cruise control with braking function, park distance control for both front and rear, M-spec instrument cluster, powered driver seat with memory function, automatic IRVM, M-spec steering wheel with paddle shifters, rain sensor, and much more.
In typical BMW fashion, the quality of the materials and plastics is simply great. The cabin is focused more towards the driver, but its overall dash layout is based on older BMWs. Step inside, and the huge sporty seats welcome you with the M2 badging. These are comfortable and extremely spacious too. While the space at the front is impressive, the rear – as you would expect from a 2-door coupe – is only good for children.
You sit facing an M-spec three-spoke steering wheel with massive paddle shifters and an M-spec instrument cluster. The infotainment system is nice and fluid, although Apple Carplay is not offered as standard. The dual-zone climate controls are placed just below the physical controls for the screen. It also features the typical M-spec gear lever, which is, again, a nice addition.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The M2 is powered by the same engine that propels under the hood of the M3/M4, albeit in a lower state of tune. The 3.0-litre inline-six engine is good for 404bhp and 550Nm of torque. It is only available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic in India, while a 6-speed manual is also an option in the other markets. It is also compliant with the stricter BS-VI emission standards.
