Datsun Redi-GO Highlights
Datsun started off in India with their Go hatchback some years ago, the brand ushered in a newer, smaller product to take on the entry-level micro-hatchback competition with the Redi-Go. With its chic appeal, practicality and a peppy engine, it's bound to appeal to Indian customers, also keeping in mind that the extremely competitive Datsun Redi-GO price.
We find it to be the cutest entry-level hatchback on sale in India. The tall stance and good ground clearance of 185mm are points to be noted. The overall design is fresh and attractive. Up-front, it gets the traditional Datsun grille, with chrome outlining it. It gets stylish headlamps and an angular front bumper design that has LEDs in the fog-lamp slots. Viewed from the side, the flared wheel arches give the design some muscle, while there is also a sharp crease that extends from the lower half of the front doors, and goes all the way to rear tail lights. There are quite a few slashes on the panels that give it a distinctive appeal. At the rear, it gets a curvy tail gate, boomerang-shaped tail lamps, a chrome strip and a faux skid plate that gives it a slight crossover look. All in all, the Datsun Redi-GO on-road price is sure to lure people away from the Kwid and Alto.
The Datsun Redi-Go variants for the 0.8-litre model are as follows: D, A, T, T(O) and S, and variants for the 1.0-litre model are as follows: T(O), S, T(O) AMT and S AMT. Features include remote key, AUX and MP3, Hands-free calling and music streaming, adjustable headlamps and a few other basic essentials. On the safety front, it gets an engine immobilizer, central locking, child safety lock and a driver-side airbag.
The fit and finish on the inside is pretty decent. And the design of the dashboard appears simple but functional – and there's an AC vent in the middle of the dashboard that blows cool air directly to occupants at the rear. There are quite a couple of cubby holes, cup holders and door pockets that come in handy. The steering feels nice to hold, and high-set seating position at the front allows for a good view of the road. While the 1.0-litre model gets an all-black cabin theme, the 0.8-litre model gets a dull-grey look. Seat cushioning inside the Datsun Redi-GO new model is decent, and there's good headroom and legroom for rear occupants.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Datsun Redi-Go is available with two engine options: a 799cc petrol motor that makes 53bhp and 72Nm of torque, and a 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 67bhp and 91Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while there is an option of an AMT gearbox for the 999cc model. The smaller engine of the two is a bit loud, but is smooth when on the move. Power feels sufficient for the city, while the clutch is nice and light. The bigger engine, on the other hand, is the livelier of the two. The steering is well weighted, and the turning radius is very impressive, while the ride quality is a bit on the stiff side, but does a decent job in dealing with bumps.
The Datsun Redi-Go's ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is rated at 22.5kmpl for the 1.0-litre model and 25.17kmpl for the 0.8-litre petrol model.
