Datsun redi-GO Highlights
Datsun started in India with their Go hatchback some years ago, followed by the brand ushering in a newer, smaller product to take on the entry-level micro-hatchback competition with the redi-GO. With its chic appeal, practicality, a peppy engine, and also keeping in mind that the extremely competitive Datsun redi-GO price, it's bound to appeal to Indian customers
In 2020, Datsun gave its most affordable hatchback a much-needed facelift with a heavy aesthetic update and a feature upgrade so as to match the competitors in terms of the overall modern equipment.
Where we did find the pre-facelift version to be the cutest entry-level hatchback on sale in India, the facelift takes a different approach as its much sharper and aggressive. The overall design is fresh and attractive.
Up-front, it gets a massive grille with a brushed aluminium outline. Moreover, it gets sleeker headlamps, large L-shaped DRLs, and a largely untouched front bumper design. Viewed from the side, the flared wheel arches give the design some muscle, while there is also a sharp crease that extends from the lower half of the front doors, and goes all the way to rear tail lights.
There are quite a few slashes on the panels that give it a distinctive appeal. At the rear, it gets a curvy tailgate, reprofiled tail lamps with LED inserts and a faux skid plate that gives it a slight crossover look. All in all, the Datsun redi-GO on-road price is sure to lure people away from the Kwid and Alto.
The Datsun redi-GO variants are as follows: D, A, T, and T(O). Safety features include an engine immobilizer, central locking, reverse parking sensors, and a driver-side airbag as standard. The top-end AMT trim also gets a passenger airbag.
Other features include a remote key, manual air conditioner, an 8.0-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, reverse parking camera, adjustable headlamps and a few other basic essentials.
The fit-and-finish on the inside is pretty decent. And the design of the dashboard appears simple but functional – and there's an AC vent in the middle of the dashboard that blows cool air directly to occupants at the rear. There are quite a couple of cubby holes, cup holders and door pockets that come in handy.
The steering feels nice to hold, and high-set seating position at the front allows for a good view of the road. The addition of an 8.0-inch touchscreen makes the interior a significantly nicer place to be. Seat cushioning inside the Datsun redi-GO new model is decent, and there's enough headroom and legroom for rear occupants.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Datsun Redi-Go is available with two engines: a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which makes 54bhp and 72Nm of torque, and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, good for 67bhp and 91Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the 1.0-litre engine also comes with the option of an AMT gearbox. Both the engines are compliant with BS-VI emission standards as well.
