Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Dual-tone Launched in India at Rs 11.14 Lakh

Maruti Suzuki recently announced its Ciaz mid-size sedan line will now include an electronic stability program and hill hold assist as standard safety features. The new dual-tone version starts at Rs 11.14 lakh (ex-showroom) for the MT variant and Rs 12.34 lakh (ex-showroom) for the AT variant.

<p>Life during this unprecedented COVID-19 situation can at times get quite dull and boring and we do need to find different ways to keep ourselves occupied. So when you’re done working, playing online games, and watching your favourite TV shows, if you’re still scratching your head to find something to do, and you like cars, here’s a fun activity you can engage in – playing with the car configurator!</p>

<p>Of course, this sounds like something we’ve done in racing video games but there’s no harm in trying it out in the real world, although you won’t be finding stage 3 racing clutch packs or Brembo disc brake options here. &nbsp;</p>

<p>So, today’s car of choice for car configurator play is the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz on the company’s Nexa website.</p>

<p>The Nexa configurator is pretty easy to find on the website and loads fairly quickly too. You can find the configurator button on the main model landing on the centre right-hand side of the screen, where it can be chosen from a click-to-expand menu. Once this opens up, you choose the variant and hit personalise.</p>

<p>Once you enter the configurator, the first step is to choose the car colour, post which you can head into the ‘Exterior’ category that allows you to choose from a range of trim garnish options, such as wheel covers for lower variants, door mouldings, headlamp garnish, and window visors.</p>

<p>I chose to customise the S variant of the Ciaz, which already comes with a rear spoiler, but I decided to go for the rear-windscreen visor, which looks pretty neat. I skipped everything else on the menu here as there was a scary amount of chrome garnishing to choose from. It’s a similar story when it comes to ‘Interior’ category customisation as well with faux wood trim inserts. So, I opted in for the most basic and simple accessory&nbsp;–&nbsp;some nice black carpet foot mats to go with the all-black interiors of the Ciaz S.</p>

<p>Next up was the ‘Safety’ category, but this button is defunct and has nothing on offer. Although, I wonder if Maruti Suzuki was offering ISOFIX child seats here. Anyway, moving on, next up is the ‘Comfort &amp; Convenience’ category where there is a wide range of products and accessories to choose from. I went in for a body cover that costs a very reasonable Rs&nbsp;1,490, a tyre inflator, and anti-rust coating protection, which I assume is an underbody protection treatment.&nbsp;I also picked the ‘paint protection’ option, which I assume is the Teflon coating but at Rs. 332 it isn’t, and lastly, I ticked the body wax option, which is a coat of polish minus labour costs. I sincerely hope they polish the car and not hand me a can of polish with my brand new car.</p>

<p>After this, there is an ‘Audio infotainment’ section where you can pick anything from a single-DIN stereo to a swanky double-DIN touchscreen infotainment system. But since the Ciaz S is the top-of-the-line variant with its in-built infotainment system, I didn’t feel the need to pick anything from this section.</p>

<p>Last up is the ‘Packages’ section, which is defunct like the Safety section, no matter which variant of the Ciaz you choose.</p>

<p>Coming back to my mildly custom Ciaz S, well the car has a list price of Rs&nbsp;10,08,689 (ex-showroom).&nbsp; Factor in the extras I chose for the car, and the total bill goes up by Rs&nbsp;9,861, which if you think about it is very reasonable, considering that you just bought all of these goodies from the OEM and not an aftermarket shop.</p>

<p>On the whole, this was a fun exercise, with the only problem being the slow response from the configurator, which tends to even hang sometimes if you add and remove an accessory too many times.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, if you’re bored out of your wits, head over to a car or motorcycle’s website and see if you can kit a car or a motorcycle out to your liking. I’ll try and bring you more of these. Now, Mahindra offers an accessory brochure for all its models, but there is no configurator like the Nexa system that not only allows you to add items and tally costs&nbsp;but also gives you a digital glimpse of what your car will look like with new fitments.</p>

<p>What do you think this Metallic Premium Silver Ciaz S looks like with the rear spoiler and rear windscreen visor? I do wish, though, that the Ciaz S was available with the Alpha model’s dual-tone alloy wheels instead of these all-black rims that are indeed 16-inch units but look like the smaller 15-inch ones available in lower-spec variants of the Ciaz, as they have the same design. I am also not too sure about how good or bad the lower all-black body kit of the Ciaz S looks like in real life in terms of fit and finish and quality. But there’s only one way to figure out things like this – check out the car in real, once showrooms open, of course. And that’s the thing with virtual showrooms for cars. No matter what you see, you can only be sure once inspect a car in person!</p>

Play with the Configurator: Nexa Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

<p>In August last year, Maruti Suzuki commenced sale of their updated BS-VI models. <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/bs-vi-compliant-maruti-suzuki-baleno-hybrid-launched-at-725-lakh-105879/">The company commenced the shift with the Baleno hybrid</a> and then gradually introduced the Alto 800, Wagon R, Swift, Ertiga and more. Now, the Manesar-based carmaker has brought in the updated Ciaz – their 11<sup>th</sup> car to get the BS-VI update. Priced of the Ciaz now start at Rs 8.31 lakh for the base Sigma variant with the manual transmission. The top-spec Alpha trim with the automatic gearbox is priced at Rs 11.09 lakh, which is the same as before. Just like all other Maruti Suzuki models, the Ciaz BS-VI too will only be available with a petrol heart. Maruti Suzuki has still not updated their diesel variants to BS-VI.&nbsp;Prices of all versions (except Alpha MT variant) have increased by roughly Rs 12,000. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.</p>

<p>Mechanically, the Ciaz continues to be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter.</p>

<p>Cosmetically, the BS-VI Ciaz will look the same as before. However, Maruti Suzuki has now introduced the Ciaz S. Based on the Alpha variant, the Ciaz S is priced at Rs 10.08 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which makes it about Rs 11,000 dearer than the standard model.</p>

<p>The Ciaz S gets dual-tone treatment to the exterior. The fog lamp casings are now black, as are the ORVM casings and alloy wheels. The Ciaz S gets black side skirts, a new rear spoiler and a redesigned rear bumper. Unlike the standard model, the Ciaz S gets all-black finish to the interior and upholstery. To break the monotony though, the interior gets silver accents on the door trim and the instrument panel. &nbsp;</p>

<p><em><strong>We take a look at the top five facts about the new Maruti Suzuki Ciaz diesel which make it a force to be reckoned with.</strong></em></p>

<p>With the <strong>launch of the new Ciaz diesel</strong>, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> has debuted its first-ever in-house developed diesel engine. Besides being a major milestone for the homegrown carmaker, the new motor adds an important dimension to Maruti Suzuki's present and future product strategies. We take a look at the top five noteworthy facts about the new Ciaz diesel which make it an even tougher contender to compete with.</p>

<p><strong>New engine and gearbox</strong></p>

<p>As mentioned above, the new Ciaz diesel marks the beginning of a new era for Maruti Suzuki in terms of its powertrain development. The new 1.5-litre DDiS 225 motor in the Ciaz produces 94bhp and 225Nm of torque, which is 5.5bhp and 25Nm more than its predecessor. Further, the new motor also comes paired to a new 6-speed gearbox, ditching the old 5-speed box. Maruti claims that the new motor produces better low-end torque, meaning that the Ciaz will be noticeably peppier while pottering around town. The rise in power and torque though can be attributed to the higher-capacity engine as well as the incorporation of a new high-efficiency turbocharger. Despite upgraded performance credentials, the Ciaz diesel still offers a claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 26.82km/l.</p>

<p>The new 1.5-litre motor also puts Maruti Suzuki in the exclusive group of manufacturers who use a cast-aluminium block and cylinder&nbsp;head for its engines. Before Maruti, Honda was the only manufacturer in India to offer it in its vehicles.</p>

<p><strong>Future-ready</strong></p>

<p>As is the case with every manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki will extract the maximum potential out of this newly-developed motor by introducing it on more of its models in the coming years. As of now, our sources have told us that the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maruti-suzuki-ertiga-to-get-new-diesel-engine-after-ciaz-in-february-2019-105406/"><strong>Ertiga is the next model in line to receive this motor</strong></a>. Further, keeping in mind the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maruti-suzuki-and-toyota-furnish-collaboration-details-105733/"><strong>recent collaboration inked between Suzuki and Toyota</strong></a>, Toyota will make use of the new-age Suzuki engines in its vehicles, which will be produced at Toyota's facility in Poland. This new 1.5-litre motor will also be put to use internationally by Suzuki.</p>

<p>Another crucial future purpose served by this motor is that it is already BS-VI compliant. While it will currently go on sale with the standard BS-IV setup, Maruti Suzuki will be ready with the BS-VI upgrades well in time before the new norms kick in. With the onset of the BS-VI norms, Maruti Suzuki might even bring back its Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) to the Ciaz diesel (not available currently with the 1.5-litre diesel motor).</p>

<p><strong>Competition</strong></p>

<p>As known already, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz goes toe-to-toe with likes of the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. When compared against the two, the Ciaz's ageing 1.3-litre motor proved to be the only chink in its armour in front of the City's 1.5 i-DTEC DOHC engine and the Verna's 1.4-litre U2 CRDI motor. With that resolved, the Ciaz diesel gets a fresh lease of life. However, despite the new motor, the Ciaz still&nbsp;remains the most underpowered car in the lot with its 94bhp output. The only exception here is the 1.4-litre motor in the Verna which pumps out just 89bhp. Otherwise, the 1.6-litre engine produces 126bhp and the City diesel has a power output of 98bhp. The Verna also pips the other two in terms the gearbox choice as it is the only model here to offer both manual and automatic transmission options in its diesel line-up.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, what the new Ciaz diesel loses in power, it gains in fuel efficiency as it remains the most fuel-efficient (26.82km/l) car in the lot. The Honda City diesel has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 25.6km/l and the Verna offers 24.75km/l (1.4&nbsp;CRDI).&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Price</strong></p>

<p>While the erstwhile Ciaz diesel range started from Rs 9.19 lakh, the new Ciaz diesel range starts from Rs 9.97 lakh for the base Delta variant (the new line-up loses the earlier&nbsp;Sigma base variant). Despite the significant price increase, the Ciaz still remains competitively priced, when compared to the Honda City diesel (which starts from Rs 11 lakh). However, the Verna diesel does offer a little better value for money as its base variant is priced at Rs 9.33 lakh (1.4 CRDi E).</p>

<p><strong>Segment-leader</strong></p>

<p>The Ciaz enjoys some additional benefits over its two chief rivals: The fact that Maruti Suzuki has one of the biggest sales and service network in the country and the homegrown carmaker's evergreen reputation of being a&nbsp;cost-effective brand, with low maintenance costs of its vehicles and easy availability of spares. Due to this reason, the Ciaz remains the segment leader in terms of sales as Maruti Suzuki sold 24,728 units of the Ciaz in the past six months (Sep 18-Feb 19), compared to the 17,876 units of the Verna and 21,130 units of the City sold during the same time.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>


New Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Diesel: Top 5 facts

<p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> has called in the 2018 Ciaz to check and replace the speedometer. The company will also replace the owner’s manual for the cars as well at the same time. Only the Zeta and Alpha variants of the Ciaz face-lift will need to be addressed in regard to this initiative. All units of the C-segment sedan manufactured from 1<sup>st</sup> August to 21<sup>st</sup> September are part by this initiative. More than 880 cars made during this time will need to be checked. The Manesar-based car maker has assured its customers that the current speedometer doesn’t pose any safety concern. Replacement of the speedo, as well as the manual, will be free of cost for customers. Maruti Suzuki has created a new page on their website where customers can check of their Ciaz is part of the recall.</p>

<p>Maruti Suzuki brought in the updated Ciaz earlier this year in August. Since then the sedan offering has been bringing good numbers for the brand. Just like before, even this face-lifted model is economical, practical and superb value for money. Apart from the visual changes to the design, Maruti Suzuki introduced a new 1.5-litre petrol motor in the Ciaz. This motor makes 103bhp and 138Nm.</p>

<p>While the new petrol made its debut in the Ciaz, it is expected to be plonked in the new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/ertiga/">Ertiga</a> too. Maruti is all set to bring in the new Ertiga later this month. Bookings for the MPV have already begun.</p>

<p>With the mid-size <a href="https://www.autox.com/sedan-cars-in-india/">sedan</a> having received a significant rejig with the launch of the new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/verna/">Hyundai Verna</a> and Honda City face-lift, the king of the segment has finally made its move. Maruti Suzuki’s updated Ciaz has finally been launched and it comes with a host of cosmetic updates along with a revised feature list, but the bigger news here is the introduction of Suzuki’s K15B 1.5 litre petrol engine to our market.</p>

<p>This new engine comes is welcomed into the Ciaz as the previous 1.4 litre engine wasn’t at par with its rivals on performance. On paper, this 1.5 litre, four cylinder, naturally aspirated engine is capable of developing 103bhp of max power @ 6,000rpm and 138Nm of peak torque @ 4,400 rpm. And knowing the nature of Suzuki’s petrol engine, expect this one to be lively as well, that said, how it will perform with the Ciaz’s kerb weight is yet to be seen. What also remains to be seen is the performance delivery considering that the petrol Ciaz now also comes with a mild hybrid system that gets a lithium-ion battery pack. Maruti is offering this new petrol with a choice of two gearboxes as earlier, a five-speed manual and a four-speed torque converter automatic. The petrol automatic 1.5 Ciaz has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency figure of 20.28 km/l while the manual model is rated at 21.56 km/l.</p>

<p>Commenting on the launch of the face-lifted Ciaz, Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director &amp; CEO, Maruti Suzuki said, “At Maruti Suzuki, we always strive to bring newer, advanced and greener technologies in India. The New Ciaz, powered by K15 Smart Hybrid gasoline engine, is testament of the same. Ciaz is the first car in India to be powered by next generation Smart Hybrid technology with Lithium-ion battery. Over the past four years, Ciaz has redefined the sedan segment with its class leading space, design and sophistication. With fresh changes, we are confident that the New Ciaz will present a complete package in line with aspirations of evolving customers.”</p>

<p>The updated Ciaz will also continue to be offered with the 1.3 litre diesel engine as earlier with the same mild hybrid system. The unit is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox and ARAI efficiency is pegged at 28.09 km/l.</p>

<p>Aside from the new petrol engine and mild hybrid system, the cosmetic updates to the Ciaz on the exterior consists of new LED head lamps and fog lamps, a new front grille and bumper, LED tail lamps and 16 inch dual-tone alloy wheels. On the inside, the car gets a revised instrument cluster design, new faux wood inserts, satin chrome accents on the dashboard and door pads and a colour display for the driver information screen. &nbsp;</p>
