When it was subjected to the frontal crash test at a speed of 64km/h,&nbsp;the electric SUV demonstrated ‘good’ protection for the driver's and passenger’s head, neck, thighs, and pelvis. The driver’s chest protection was deemed ‘adequate’, whereas the&nbsp;passenger’s was rated ‘good’. The electric SUV made its India debut earlier this year at the Bharat&nbsp;Mobility Auto Expo and is already on sale in Europe. It is developed&nbsp;and manufactured in India at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat.&nbsp;</p><p>For the uninitiated, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the very first unit of the&nbsp;e Vitara in August, marking a notable milestone in the country’s ‘Make in India’&nbsp;initiative. The e Vitara will be exported to over 100 countries,&nbsp;including key markets such as Europe and Japan. It will be offered&nbsp;with two battery options and is said to deliver a range of more than 500 kilometres. </p><h2><strong>Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Here’s What to Expect</strong></h2><p>Globally, Maruti Suzuki offers the<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/e-vitara/"> e Vitara</a> with a choice of two battery packs: 49kWh and 61kWh. The front-wheel-drive variants produce 142bhp and 192.5Nm with the 49kWh battery,&nbsp;while the larger 61kWh pack increases output to 172bhp without altering torque.&nbsp;The SUV is also offered in an all-wheel-drive configuration featuring a dual-motor&nbsp;setup that delivers a combined 181bhp and 300Nm. I say that because the Grand Vitara was already performing well and maintaining a strong presence in the segment. It seems that the Victoris is aimed at expanding the brand’s reach further in the segment, given that it is sold through the Arena network, which comprises over 3,000 outlets – six times the number of Nexa outlets. This will allow the Victoris to target a much larger customer base. <p>The Victoris impresses with its striking design, which breaks away from Maruti Suzuki’s previous products. Crafted entirely at Maruti Suzuki’s India design studio, largely staffed by Indian designers, it commands strong road presence. Some of its design highlights include elements such as a sleek front fascia, a sharply styled rear end, a sloping roof, and a full-width taillight, which give it a distinctive character.</p>

<p>Inside, the cabin is a noticeable step up from other Maruti Suzuki models. While it still shares parts with other Maruti Suzuki products, the larger multimedia touchscreen and full-colour instrument cluster are visible upgrades. Similarly, while the quality of the cabin has definitely improved, there are a few hard plastics that could do with some improvement. In terms of practicality, the Victoris fares decently – while the boot space is generous, and the front seats are spacious and comfortable, the sloping roof compromises headroom for passengers taller than six feet.</p>

<p>Another major upgrade is the extensive list of standard equipment, making the Victoris the most feature-rich Maruti Suzuki product in India. This includes Level 2 ADAS, making it the brand’s first model to offer this technology. It has ample grip, well-weighted steering, and a suspension tuned to handle a wide range of road conditions. In fact, the platform seems capable of handling significantly more power. Coupled with its strong value proposition – it received one of the highest scores in that category – and excellent fuel economy numbers, exceeding 20km/l in everyday use, the Victoris emerges as a highly satisfying package and a deserving winner of our ‘Best of 2025’ award.

In stop-go traffic, it hesitates between shifts, making progress feel jerky and inconsistent. <p>The cabin is well-appointed and thoughtfully equipped. The 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, Arkamys-tuned audio, and even a sunroof give it a premium edge. Space and ergonomics are spot-on, though the quality of some materials and overall refinement still hint at cost-cutting. In essence, the Dzire remains true to its core strengths – it’s efficient, comfortable, and dependable. It may no longer have the novelty factor, but few cars deliver honest value quite as consistently as it does.

<p>Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its first electric car, the e Vitara, in India on December 2, 2025. The SUV, which made its global debut last year, was among Maruti’s prominent displays at the Auto Expo 2025. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will go head-to-head against models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, the MG ZS EV, the Tata Curvv EV, and the Mahindra BE 6. 

<p><strong>The third generation Maruti Suzuki DZire looks posh and is fully loaded with features. Does this make the new sub-4 metre sedan the invincible one in its segment? We find out.</strong></p>

<p>Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire has come a long way since its inception in 2008. Pardon me, this third-generation sedan is simply called DZire as <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> decided to drop the Swift name. Many may not even notice this change, but for the curious lot, Maruti did this because the all-new DZire is no more based on the Swift, rather it uses the Baleno platform. We promise you we will get to the advantages of this new chassis in awhile, but right now, how about we spend a couple seconds admiring this brand new sub-4 metre sedan. We also agree that&nbsp;words like stunning road presence and an air of premium-ness are something one doesn’t associate with the DZire, unless you’re trying to pull off a fast one. As we mentioned earlier, the DZire has a come a long way from what it stood for — a practical and a value-for-money family sedan. No puns intended, but Maruti has put some serious thought into making this car a desirable proposition. The DZire has never been a ‘Yes Sir’ or a follower rather, it has been a segment leader by a comfortable margin with a 50% segment share and now with the new avatar, things will only get better for Maruti.</p>

<p>We are really happy to say that the new DZire looks more like a sedan than a worked upon hatchback, thanks to the roof, which smoothly merges into the body. And we really hope the competition is taking some notes so that the sub-4 metre sedan segment transforms like the 'Ugly Duckling'. Coming back to the 2017 DZire, it has a road presence like no other car in its segment with its projector headlamps, a string of diamonds like LED daytime running lamps and the bright LED tail lamps. Calling the new DZire sporty would be incorrect rather it brings in a lot of pomp and opulence, which this segment seriously lacks. The new front fascia with a four-slat chrome grille, replacing the single slat grille, redesigned bumpers, and a&nbsp;new set of 15-inch alloy wheels have managed to change its image. It’s no secret that we, Indians, love chrome, but kudos&nbsp;to Maruti for judiciously using it in a classy way.</p>

<p>Step inside and you're welcomed by an airy dual-tone black and beige cabin. We initially thought Maruti could have done without the wooden inserts on the dashboard, door panels and the steering wheel, but it honestly didn't look too tacky. We loved the new flat-bottom steering wheel. It doesn't just look good, it also feels well balanced and isn't too light like most cars these days. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/dzire/">DZire</a> now sports an upgraded infotainment system with a touchscreen display, which has an inbuilt navigation system and is equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as connectivity options apart from Bluetooth, of course.</p>

<p>Thanks to the&nbsp;Heartect platform, the new DZire’s wheelbase has been increased by 20mm and the width gone up by 40mm. This basically translates into&nbsp;a lot more spacious knee and legroom for the rear passengers. For enhanced comfort, it also comes with a rear AC vent. The good news is that new DZire has shed some weight. The petrol is lighter by 85kg and the diesel by 105kg.&nbsp;Its boot space has now been increased from 320 litres to 376 litres.The new seats are big and supportive, though slightly soft. It's very similar to the Baleno's. Therefore, there's ample under thigh support. On the hindsight, though, the ground clearance has dropped by 7mm to 163mm, but it's still very decent for our road conditions.</p>

<p>As expected, the DZire retains the 82bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine and the ever so reliable 74bhp 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine. But the USP of the new DZire is that now both the powertrains are available with a 5-speed AMT transmission. This makes the DZire the only car in the segment to offer AMT in both the petrol and diesel trims.</p>

<p>The 1.2-litre petrol engine is very silent and refined as it never sounds out of tune. Even though being an AMT, its first nature is to upshift as soon as possible to return high fuel economy, the petrol still lets you stretch the RPM needles a fraction more than the diesel. At low speeds, a shade over 1,000rpm, the engine is responsive and when&nbsp;slotted in manual mode, it sprints like a hare.</p>

<p>In the case of the diesel, the 1.3-litre builds up momentum in a calculated manner, therefore, a turbo lag can be felt. Once it hits the mid-range power, you can feel the much-needed power kicking in. As said earlier, the main aim of the AMT gearbox is to ensure high mileage and according to Maruti, the petrol returns 20.85kmpl and 26.85kmpl by the diesel, making it the most fuel-efficient car in its segment.</p>

<p>Priced at Rs 8.41 lakh and Rs 9.41 lakh, both the petrol and diesel AMT versions are real value for money even though it takes time getting used to the transmissions' upshifting habit. The DZire looks very posh and the cabin is spacious and is equipped with comfort features. Coming to the safety aspect, Maruti has left no stone unturned as the DZire is equipped with ABS, dual airbags and ISOFIX seats as a standard feature. The ride quality is ideal for Indian roads as it easily cushions the potholes and ditches without any jarring experiences. The suspension set-up has now become slightly softer. The DZire hits new highs and continues to dominate this segment. The king is still very much alive and is all set to slay its competitors.</p>

Maruti Suzuki DZire Review, First Drive

The all-new third-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire drops the 'Swift' prefix for its own unique identity. As a result, it also drops the boxy design for a well-balanced silhouette. But, is it still a hoot to drive? Let's figure it out now, shall we?

<p><em>For a diesel automatic, the Swift DZire AMT is an extremely fuel-efficient car – but with an automated manual, how does it perform in the real world?</em></p>

<p>There’s no getting away from the fact that the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire is India’s highest selling <a href="https://www.autox.com/sedan-cars-in-india/">sedan</a>, and the second highest selling car in the country. Maruti now aims to take this already successful recipe forward with the inclusion of an automatic gearbox – well, an Automated Manual Transmission to be exact. The Swift DZire AMT is being offered in the diesel model, which accounts for a significant chunk of sales for this compact sedan. However, considering that it’s an automated manual unit, can the Swift DZire AMT attract even more buyers to the fold – especially considering that the AMT is only offered in the top-spec ZDi trim with a sticker price of Rs. 8.40 lakhs?</p>

<p>Needless to say, the Swift <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/dzire/">DZire</a> AMT’s engine needs no introduction – as it’s the country’s favourite diesel engine, which does duty in numerous models across brands. Fire up the 1.3 litre, common-rail turbo-diesel engine, and you’re greeted by a familiar note at idle from the oil burner. Slot the gear lever into Drive, and the creep function of the gearbox lets the car get off the line in a smooth manner. The gearbox is programmed to shift to second gear at 2,000rpm – and while this isn’t a problem usually, when you happen to be in between speed breakers for instance, the car holds the revs in first and it can get a little annoying. Even if you slot it into manual mode, it simply refuses to shift up from first gear if you’re under 2,000rpm – perhaps to compensate for lag from the turbo. As a result of which it gets a little loud in the cabin as well.</p>

<p>Another typical bugbear of an AMT is the fact that gear changes aren’t quite as smooth as they are in a more traditional torque convertor automatic transmission. But that’s a small price to pay for an affordable machine with automatic shifts. Moreover, there is one way in which you can avoid jerky shifts – and that’s if you lift off the accelerator pedal when the gearbox is changing up, as you would do in a car with a manual transmission. Of course, you would follow the same method if and when you decide to change gears manually as well. And, honestly, this is a small price to pay considering that you can have an automatic variant for just Rs. 50,000 more than the manual ZDi model.</p>

<p>Now that we’ve discussed the character of the AMT at slower speeds, let’s get up to speed and see what the car feels like out on the open road. Well, most of the time it’s a smooth ride and the gearbox is quick to downshift when you need a quick surge of power.</p>

<p>With 74bhp on tap, the Swift DZire diesel was never a particularly fast car – and with the AMT gearbox transmitting power to the wheels you do notice the slight lack of grunt. In automatic mode, the gearbox shifts up at 4,000rpm – and while you can take it all the way to the redline in tiptronic mode, it begins to run out of breath a little past the 4,200rpm mark. Plus, having an AMT gearbox doesn’t really help its case with slower gearshifts than a manual.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, considering the convenience of the automatic gearbox, and the availability of a healthy 190Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm, and a relatively free revving engine, the Swift DZire diesel automatic feels responsive at city speeds and is an absolute breeze to drive in traffic with its compact dimensions.</p>

<p>The steering weighs up nicely once the speeds go up, but lacks a bit of confidence until the heaviness kicks in. Otherwise, the car feels well balanced, stays planted at high speeds, and can take sweeping bends with ease.</p>

<p>While that’s the end of this review, we still haven’t come to the best bit about the car as yet. In the 1,300 kilometres that I drove the car, the Swift DZire AMT returned an urban fuel efficiency of 21.1km/l. That’s absolutely fantastic as a real world efficiency figure with a running cost (fuel only) of around 2 Rupees and 57 paisa per kilometre. Club that with its ease of driving, and you’ve got a pretty good everyday runabout!</p>
