    Our cover story this month has made one thing quite clear - the hybrid is the new mileage king. That said, I’m not going to spend time singing praises of the Victoris’ stellar fuel efficiency. Instead, I want to talk about something related - something that briefly dips into the realm of geopolitics, particularly the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.</p>

<p>Now, I’ll admit I don’t fully understand how this conflict will play out. But given the epicentre of the dispute, one thing seems almost certain - fuel prices could skyrocket in the coming days, and every internal combustion engine car owner is bracing themselves for it. However, if you drive a hybrid, you’ll probably be impacted the least. Let me explain.</p>

<p>To give you some perspective, I filled the Victoris to the brim nearly two weeks ago, and the fuel gauge is still hovering around the halfway mark - despite covering nearly 400km, most of it within the city. As you’ll read in the cover feature, the Victoris hybrid returned an impressive 23.4km/l in chock-a-bloc city traffic. In comparison, the diesel Creta managed 14.2km/l, while an equivalent turbo-petrol would likely return around 11–12km/l under the same driving conditions. So, in simple terms, driving a hybrid reduces your fuel consumption by half, meaning fewer visits to the pump for the same driving distance. Not to mention, you also save quite a lot of money in the process.</p>

<p>This raises an interesting question - why haven’t our policymakers thought of this till now? Why isn’t there a stronger push for hybrids to reduce our reliance on oil? And more importantly, why aren’t more carmakers bringing hybrid technology to market? Has the rush to go fully electric landed us in a bit of a soup? It certainly feels that way - and I, for one, can’t quite wrap my head around it, especially considering the current situation with oil.

In a world where fuel prices can change overnight, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris hybrid demonstrates how cutting consumption can make everyday driving far cheaper.

<p>Far from a mere numbers game, Maruti Suzuki’s inauguration of the 200th Nexa Studio outlet is a step toward targeting India’s emerging markets beyond tier-2 cities. Launched in August 2024, the Nexa Studio format isn’t just a compact showroom - it’s a decentralised premium ecosystem. Designed for semi-urban and growing markets, these outlets integrate sales, service, and spares under one roof, creating a genuine one-stop shop for all customer needs. To date, Nexa Studios has driven sales of over 42,000 units. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing &amp; Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, detailed the company’s premium retail strategy for the country.</p><p> For years, premium automotive experiences were an urban privilege – marble floors, mood lighting, curated lounges, and tailored customer consultations were confined to metro cities. This narrative changed with the launch of Nexa in 2015, a design-led, experience-driven retail channel.</p><p>

A clear consumer shift drives this expansion: aspirational buyers in non-metro regions are no longer willing to travel to larger cities for a differentiated buying experience. Furthermore, rising incomes and digital exposure have helped increase awareness even among tier-3 and rural car buyers.</p><p> Another aspect shaping this strategy is the changing profile of buyers in emerging markets. Many customers in these regions are first-time car owners who are moving up from two-wheelers. For them, the purchase experience itself is an important part of the upgrade.</p><p>

Maruti Suzuki has traditionally relied on strong dealer networks to extend its reach across the country, and the Nexa Studio format provides them with a scalable retail model suited to smaller markets. It allows partners to operate premium outlets with relatively efficient space and investment requirements while maintaining the brand’s experience-centric identity.</p><p> In FY 2024-25, Nexa accounted for nearly 30% of Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales, retailing over 5.4 lakh vehicles. That’s not niche performance - it’s structural relevance. Notably, Maruti says that almost 50% of its total sales come from rural areas, which also account for 50% of the company’s SUV sales. Emerging markets also account for approximately 10% of India’s total EV sales, further underscoring their growing importance to the automotive industry.</p><p>

Rather than creating a separate retail channel exclusively for electric vehicles, the company is integrating EV readiness into its existing Nexa network. Most Nexa outlets, including the newer Nexa Studios, are already equipped with EV fast-charging infrastructure, while around 95% of Nexa Studios also offer full servicing facilities. This integrated model allows customers to access sales, charging, and after-sales support within the same ecosystem, eliminating the need for a separate EV retail experience. Maruti aims to scale Nexa Studios to 600-700 outlets by FY 2030-31 - a move that signals the manufacturer’s unwavering long-term commitment to emerging markets in India. It’s a calibrated retail transformation designed for deeper market penetration.</p><p> Maruti Suzuki also reviews production allocation every month to ensure waiting periods across models remain under control. For the e Vitara, the company plans to manufacture around 2,000 units per month for the domestic market until July 2026, after which production volumes could be scaled up depending on demand. The growing appeal of the Nexa channel is also reflected in customer trends, with the number of first-time buyers at Nexa dealerships increasing by around 10%.</p><p>

In this configuration, the 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine will act only as a&nbsp;generator to charge the battery pack.&nbsp;Propulsion will come from an electric motor, which is expected to&nbsp;power the wheels on its own.&nbsp;&nbsp;With this, the hybrid model is anticipated to offer a mileage of more than 35km/l.&nbsp;</p><p>Currently, this Z-series engine already powers the new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/swift/">Swift</a> and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/dzire/">Dzire</a> without any hybrid support,&nbsp;where it produces around 80bhp and 111.7Nm.</p><h2><strong>Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid: Expected Price</strong></h2><p>The Fronx hybrid is expected to command a premium ranging between Rs 2-3 lakh over its standard counterpart, which starts at Rs 6.85 lakh (ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p>

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Marks 10th Anniversary in India 

Maruti Suzuki India has announced that the Brezza compact SUV has completed ten years in the country. Currently in its second-generation, the compact SUV is priced from Rs 8.26 lakh (ex-showroom).

With the launch of the new Brezza on the horizon, here are all the key changes we can expect.</p><h2><strong>Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift: Exterior</strong></h2><p>The Brezza facelift is expected to retain its rugged look, with no major overhaul to its overall styling. However, the updated&nbsp;model may feature sharper detailing, revised bumpers, redesigned headlamps and taillamps,&nbsp;alongside new colour options. However, speculations suggest that the upcoming facelift could feature a new turbocharged petrol option.
