Triumph Motorcycles unveiled the 2021 Scrambler 1200 earlier this month and just last week the Street Scrambler was unveiled as well. Both the model year 2021 motorcycles were revealed alongside their special editions – the Steve McQueen edition of the Scrambler 1200 and the Sandstorm edition of the Street Scrambler – and were updated to meet the Euro 5 (BS6) norms.
This time around the British motorcycle maker has listed both the Street Scrambler 900 and the Scrambler 1200 on its India website. Also, the special editions, Steve McQueen and Sandstorm edition that are in limited numbers have been listed in the same vertical confirming that the motorcycle will be launched in India soon. At the time of unveiling, Triumph stated that the company will only produce 1000 units of the Steve McQueen edition and 775 units of the Sandstorm edition for all its markets around the globe. For now, we believe only a few units could be allotted to the Indian market and the launch could take place before the festive season.
Ducati has the Desert Sled, Icon, and Icon Dark on sale in India which will be the key competition for the Triumph Street Scrambler and the Sandstorm edition. The pricing is expected in the Rs 8-8.5 lakh ex-showroom region for the standard model and the Sandstorm special edition could ask a premium of Rs 40,000-50,000.
The Triumph Scrambler 1200 and the Steve McQueen edition will be in competition with the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Sport Pro, 1100 Pro, and the 1100 Dark Pro in India. The BMW R Nine T Scrambler, which is positioned in the higher price bracket could be considered by buyers who are mainly looking for a product for premium brand association. Expect the pricing to be between Rs 10.5-11.5 lakh for the standard model and the Steve McQueen model could be in the Rs 12-13 lakh ballpark, ex-showroom.
