As promised, Ather Energy has commenced the deliveries of its latest electric offering, the 450 Apex, in the month of March. The EV maker began bookings of the model on January 6, 2024 – the day on which the 450 Apex was launched in the country. Priced at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the new 450 Apex is the brand's most expensive offering in India. Even the top-spec Ather 450X with a 3.7kWh battery and Pro Pack is about Rs 21,000 less expensive than the 450 Apex. Ather says the 450 Apex is a limited-edition model, therefore its production will be limited to demand. The brand's latest flagship scooter will have a production run till October 2024.
Ather 450 Apex: Battery, Range
The Ather 450 Apex gets the same 3.7kWh battery pack as the 450X; however, the electric motor is rated at 7kW (9.3bhp). The claimed IDC range is 157 kilometres, thanks to the new regenerative braking system that works with a brand-new energy management algorithm called 'Magic Twist'. According to Ather, the technology enables you to twist the accelerator backwards to slow down the scooter to a halt. It also guarantees smooth and reliable operation regardless of the battery's state of charge (SoC). In comparison, the Ather 450X draws power from a 6.2kW motor linked either to a 2.9kWh battery or a 3.7kWh battery pack. The smaller battery yields a claimed 111km range, while the larger battery pack offers a 150km range on a single charge.
Ather 450 Apex: Performance
The 450 Apex comes with a Warp Plus riding mode, which takes Warp mode to the next level, offering quicker acceleration. Other modes are Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport. In Warp Plus, 0 to 40km/h comes up in a claimed time of 2.9 seconds, while the top speed is marked at 100km/h. The official 0 – 40km/h time of the 450X, meanwhile, is 3.3 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 90km/h.
Ather 450 Apex: Features
Apart from Magic Twist, the Ather 450 Apex offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in navigation, park assist, hill hold, auto indicator cut-off, and all-LED lighting. Design-wise, the 450 Apex is the same as the regular 450X, but Ather offers it in a special Indium Blue colour with a contrasting Bright Orange colour on the wheels, emblems, and frame. In the Indian market, the Ather 450 Apex goes toe-to-toe with the likes of the TVS iQube, Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak, and Simple One.
Ather Rizta to Launch on April 6
In other news, the Bengaluru-based EV maker is gearing up to launch the Rizta on April 6, which will be a bigger, family-oriented scooter. Aiming to offer ‘comfort, ample size, and a whole lot more’, this scooter will not only help Ather expand its EV portfolio in India but will also address a few issues with the 450X and the 450S, including compact dimensions.
